PAPER-BOX CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed September 16, 1921. Serial No. 501,053.4
new and useful Improvements in vPaper-Box Constructions; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andv exact description thereof. f
This invention relates to improvements in paper box construction andl more particularly to a structure of paper box adapted to be substituted for the ordina-ry cedar wood eiUar box.
am aware that heretofore there have been numerous attempts to substitute paper boxes for the ordinary wood cigar box butthese have not met with general favor, due to the used, the boxes are inclined to warp especiallyvat their ends inasmuch as the cigars 'must be tightly compressed within the box.
It is therefore primarily7 anpobject of this invention to overcome this difficulty and provide a simple, economical, and durable box for this purpose which is practically air tight and so reinforced as to prevent warping.
A more specific object is to providea form of reinforcing which will permit a comparatively light and inexpensive stock to be used.
With the foregoing and other objects in view my invention consists in what is herein shown and describedand more parteularly pointed out and defined by the appended claim.
In the drawings Figure l is an elevational-viewoff a box constructed in accordance .with my invention, with parts broken away to more clearlv 'illustrate the same. e e
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view through the box.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of the sep-l arated parts forming the box.
Figure4 is a detailed perspective viewof a modified form of the invention.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the preferred form of my invention consists of an inner box member 1 formed in the customary manner from a single blank of material in which thesi-de walls .i Y. 2 and end walls 3 are folded upwardly'and g secured together by the adhesivestrips 4.
For the purpose of reinforcing this struci ture an outer shell 5 vis provided which is;-
adapted to snugly receive the inner box member l, which is glued orotheiwise suitablyvse-k cured Within the she'll- 5.` As best shown yin 4 Figure 3 the shell 5 consists of the end walls 6 and side walls 7 which are reinforced and upper edge'v of the walls 6 and 7 to formal' shoulder upon which the cover 9 willrest and permit the sameto come flush 'with the outer walls 6 and 7. In orderv to hingedly y l i Y connect the cover 9 to the boina flexible strip l0 is secured to the'same and glued or an extension l2 provided with a lip adapted to enter therecess 13 formed in oneo-f the outer walls 7. 1
In the modified forinjofv/myy inventioniIi have eliminated the outer shell 5 and v'have provided a reinforcing'wall 14 which abuts the end -wall 3 of the box l and is secured thereto byk an .adhesive or other suitable means. In this form the end walls 3 extend I above the side walls 2 while the reinforcing walls 14 are flush with the side walls 2.'- This co I secured together at their corners by the ady otherwise fastened between fone of the,I inner and outer walls 2 and :5. For the purpose off -v locking the cover shut'I provide"a'inetalvxfv clasp 11 secured to the cover 9 and having 75 Will form a shoulderto support the coverl of the box which will be flush withthe end wally i 3 as in the other form ofy my invention.
Froml the` foregoing descriptionl talrenfiny 90 vious that a very simple,` economical, and .du-" i' rable box .has been provided which dueto the double Wall construction will prevent connection with the drawings it. will be obwarping and at the same time will permit a light inexpensive stock to be used. y
A paper box comprising an inner member having integral bottom end and side walls,
means binding the adjacent vertical edges'offi g l said side andsend walls, an outer shell having y side and end Walls surrounding and extending upwardly beyond the Side and end Walls of said inner member and secured thereto, and a fiat cover adapted to rest upon the side and end Walls of said inner membel` and Within said outer member, saidcover having a flexible hinge Hap secured between the side Walls of said inner member and said outer Shell.
In testimony that I Gaim the foregoing 10 have hereunto Set my hand at Oshkosh, in the county of Winnebago, rand State of Visconsin. I I
CASPER FAUST.
