Description

June 112, 1923. 1,458,398 a F. W. CURRIER GLASS SETTING Filed Aug. 4, 1921 IN VEN ToR I Frederic/K MCUIT/er' I go 5 19 #orne ya Patented June 12, 1923.
lhlllTE TATE FREDERICK W. CURRIER. OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
GLASS SETTING.
Application filed August 4, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK W. CUR- RIER, a citizen of the United States, resident of Minneapolis, county of Hennepin, State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Glass Settings, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of the setting shown and described in my pending application for Letters Patent of the United States, No. 454,101, filed March 21, 1921.
Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description.
The invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification,
Figure 1 is an outside view of a portion of a glass setting embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a similar View with a portion of the ornamental rail or molding removed,
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional View through the setting and a portion of the window frame, showing the preferred manner of mounting the set-ting thereon,
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the inner rail that is secured to the window stop.
In the drawing, 2 represents a window sill and 3 a stop seated on the sill and l a metal rail seated in the angle between the sill and the stop. A recess 5 is formed in this rail to receive blocks 6 of suitable material, such as lead or fiber, adapted to bear on the inner face of the glass plate 7. The lower portion of the rail 4 extends into the angle between the sill and the stop 3 and has an outwardly projecting flange 8 terminating in a lip 9, preferably having depressions 10 formed therein for the purpose hereinafter to be described.
Blocks 11 are seated on flange 8 and upon these blocks the lower edge of the glass plate 7 rests. An ornamental rail or molding 12 is provided, having a flange 13 adapted to bear on the outer face of the glass and a longitudinal rib portion 14 terminating in an inwardly projecting flange 15. Brackets 16 are formed to fit the inner side of the rail 12 and bear at their upper ends on the flange 13, the lower portion of said brackets forming legs 17 terminating in inwardly projecting foot portions 18 which extend under Serial No. 489,754.
the glass and end in contacting relation with or at the work, as preferred, and the gaps between the brackets not only serve as a means for drainage, but effect a considerable saving in the amount of material used for the brackets.
The rail 12 forms an ornamental finish for the upperportion of the molding and to complete the rail I provide a lower section 21 having a foot portion 22 that is inserted under the flange 9 and in contact with the depressed portionslO, which aid the flange in gripping the foot 22 and holding it firmly in place. The section 21 also has'an upper flanged edge 23 that is inserted into the space between the bracket 16 and the adjacent flange 15 and rail section 12. This section 21 is put in place to complete the work and when snapped into its position, all joints and unfinished parts will be entirely concealed, and the two sections 12 and 21 will have the appearance of one rail, their curved surfaces presenting an ornamental finished appearance to the outside of the setting.
Drain openings 24 are provided in the rail section 21 and whenever desired, the sections may be removed by the insertion of a suitable toolinto one of these openings. When this section has been removed, the screws or other securing means for the brackets will be exposed for examination or repair. The rails and brackets may be made of any suitable material, preferably metal, and the surface of the outer exposed rail may be finished in any suitable manner.
I claim as my invention:
1. A glass setting comprising an inner rail having means to bear against the inner surface of the glass and provided with an outwardly projecting flange extending under the glass, an outer longitudinally divided rail having an upper section with means to hold it against the outer face of the glass and a lower section having a flange in engagement with the outwardly projecting flange of said inner rail, the meeting long-itudinal edges of said outer rail sections bemg "arranged 111 overlapping relation.
2. A glass setting comprising an lnner rail having means to bear against the inner face of the glass and provided with a flange extending outwardly under the glass, an
' outer rail comprising a lower section hav- 1 conceal the flange, brackets mounted at intervals'at the outer side of the glass and having'depending portions to extend under the glass, and an ornamental outer rail divided into longitudinal sections, the upper section embracing and. concealing the upper portion of the brackets and resting against theglass, the lower sectlon lnterlocking with the flange ofsald inner rall and concealing the lower I portion of said brackets.
4. In a glass setting,. av sill and a stop thereon, a glass plate and blocks supporting it on the sill, an inner rail interposed between the glass plate and stop and having means seated against the inner face of the glass, said rail having an outwardly pr0- jecting flange extending 'under the glass,
brackets arranged at intervals at the outer side of the glass and having lower portions projectng under the glass and means for securing them to said stop, and an ornamental outer rail comprisingan upper section concealing the upper portion of said brackets and seated thereon and against the glass, and a lowersection interlocking with the flange 0; said inner rail and concealing the lower portion of said brackets.
5; In a glass setting, a sill and a stopthereon, a glass plate and blocks supporting said plate, brackets arranged at the outer side of the glass and having depending por tions extending under'the glass and means securing them to said stop, an inner rail carrying a block seated against the inner face of the glass, and an ornamental outer rail composed of sections mounted to interlock with said brackets and said inner rail and conceal the same.
In witness; whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 29th day of July 1921. FREDERICK'W. (lURRIER.
