Be it known that I, MITSUTARO NARA- MURA, a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at Chico, in the county of Butte and State of California, have invented new and useful Improvements inl Insect-Destroying Devices, of which the following is a specication.

This invention relates to a device for destroying insects and has particular reference to a device for killing flies.

The principal object of this invention is to provide a device of the character described equipped with a foraminous frame folded upon itself adjacent its rear extremity for drawing the wiremesh of the frame rearwardly in the direction of the fold so as to prevent a fringing or tearing of the mesh adjacent the edge of the frame.

Another object of this invention is to produce a device of the character described equipped with means in the form of a spring metal Vreenforcement secured to the frame of the device. l

Other objects of this invention are to provide a device by means of which flies may be killed without crushing them, to produce a construction that is compactly arranged so that it will have strength and durability; 30 to produce a device that may be readily and thoroughly cleansed so as to render it sanitary and to finally produce a device which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture and highly serviceable in use.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a frame of foraminous material made of substantially rectangular shape and provided with a salvage edge 6. The frame has a portion 7 folded upon itself as indicated to advantage iii Fig. 3 and has extending alongside the folded portion the upper extremity of a spring metal strip 8 which is distorted at 9 and then continues in a flat strip l0 embedded in the wire mesh and lying in the same plane therewith.

I propose to insert the combined folded portion and the upper extremity of the metal spring strip in the bifurcated end 11 of a handle 12, preferably made of wood. The extremity of the handle is secured to the folded portion and to the plate by suitable fastening elements 13. It will be manifest from this construction that the purpose of the metal strip is to reenforce the frame and yet, due to its inherent flexible nature, it will not interfere with the flexibility of the frame when the device is used. The function of the folded portion 9 is to cause the strands of the wire to be drawn rearwardly so that there will be a tendency of the mesh to be drawn in the direct-ion of the folded portion and thus eliminate the danger of a tearing or fringing of the mesh yadj acent the edges of the frame. The numeral 14e designates a cushioning means in the form of a cloth or rubber strip that is secured on the front extremity of the frame, so that walls and furniture may not be injured when the flies to be killed settle thereon.

It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit olf the invention or the scope of the subjoined c aim.
