WILL n. nnaucnnn, or oynrrcaeo, framers.
vnnrrna'ron.
Application filed November 7, 1921. Serial 1\To.'513,351.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, VVILLIAM; B. BRAUCHER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ventilators, of which the following is a specification.
- This invention relates particularly to ventilators of the injector and" ejector type, and is especially adapted and intended for use in connection with motor vehicles, for the purpose of ventilating closed vehicles of that type having liding windows. The device .is however capable of use on railway cars houses andvarious other places.
Closed motor vehicles commonly have a glass window pane which can be raised or lowered, and the present device consists of a ventilator which may be fitted upon the upper edge of the pane, in the window cas;
ing, where it will serve to ventilate the car while excluding rain'or now. i
The invention is illustrated panying drawings in which Fig. 1 is a top plan or upper edge view of the ventilator. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is an end elevation. Fig. 4:is a perspective of one of'the hoods.-
Referring specifically to the drawing, 6 indicates aboard the thickness of which is preferably the same as the thickness of the windowpaneindicated at 7 to which the board is applied edgewise by means of a pair of strips 8, secured to the lower edge of the board and forming a channel to receive the edge of the pane, whereby the board can be inserted in the window frame by lowering the pane sufficiently, the le'ng'thof the board being preferably equal to the'length of the upper edgeof the pane.
This board 6 is provided with two ons 9 spaced a short distance apart, andgassooutside and one'on the inside of theboard.
The hoods are tapered somewhat, asclearly shown in the drawings,\and are provided" with flanges 11 to receive fastening devices.
ciated with eachhole is a pair of hoods '10, one hoodof each pair being placed on {the to secure .the same to the board; and the .hoods cover or enclose the hole'sireferred to.
'lrh e' hoods of each pair are resented oppos1tely,or forwardly and bachw tively.
' rearwardly presented in the accomardly. respec- Each hole 9 is controlled by a swinging shutter consisting of a metal plate 12 located on the inside of the board and p1voted at 13 near the upper corner of the hood,
the shutter being tapered to swing into and out ofthe hood and being held by its frictional contact with the surface of the board. When the shutter is swung in it closes the;{
enter the forwardly presented hood of one and will flow thence through the open-. ing 9, and with a reverse direction through pair the inner hood into the interior of the can. Air will also flow outwardly through the pair of hoods, draft being imduced by the air pressure in the car and the ejector effect of the outer airflow- ,ing along the side of the car. .Obviously by a manipulation of the shutters more or less air can be admitted or exhausted as desired. When not in use, the board can be removed from the window and stored within the car, in any convenient-place. The device therefore provides simple and efiective means for window ventilation without e'posing the occupants of the car to a direct draft. 1 I claim: 1. A ventilator comprising a board adapted to removably fit a window frame, said board havingva pair of openings through thesame, and a pair of hood enclosing each opening, the hoods of'each pair being 10- direction and in "the opposite direction to the mouths of the hoods .of the other pair.
'cated on the inner and outer sides of the '2. A ventilator as set forthin claim 1.,
and shutters pivoted to the board and swinging in contact therewith into and out of the inner hoods of saidpairs respectively, and "across said openings respectively. 3 1 In testimonygwhereof, ll aflix my signa ture in presence of twowitnesses.
