Description

June 5, 1923.
M. MAIBRUN LAMP BRACKET Filed May 18, 1922 Patented June 5, 1923.
UNHTE STATS MYRON MAIBR-UNN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
LAIv/TP BRACKET.
Application filed May 18, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYRON llTiilBRUNN, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a lamp bracket adapted for use in supporting electric lamps, or lighting appliances generally in a manner to permit of adjustment thereof to different positions, preferably along a wall or other vertical element on which the bracket is mounted.
The invention has for an object to provide a simple form of lamp bracket of the sort above set forth, which can be cheaply manufactured, and can be readily secured in place, and which is adapted to releasably engage and support an electric lamp, or other lighting appliance.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a detail perspective view showing my improved lamp bracket.
Fig. 2 is a detail vertical sectional view taken along the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a face view showing a modified form of the bracket.
Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line H of Fig. 3.
As here embodied my improved lamp bracket comprises a wire frame adapted to be fastened to a wall or other desired element, and having adjustably mounted thereon a pair of lamp supporting arms, the frame being bent at the sides to form a shield or guard for the lamps. This frame comprises the top and bottom horizontal back members 10 and 11 adapted to fit or lie against the wall or other surface on which the fixture is mounted, and which are united midway between the sides of the frame by a vertical post 12.
At their ends these members 10 and 11 are bent forward at right angles as at 10' and 11 to constitute the shield or guard forming sides of the frame, being united at Serial No. 561,883.
their forward ends by vertical elements 12. I thus form, broadly speaking, a channeled skeleton frame within the confines of which the lamps, or light appliances, are adapted to be supported.
To support the adjustable lamp arms I provide a guide element in the form of a rod secured at its ends to the bottom frame element and bent to form upper and lower parallel reaches 15 and 16 spaced a short distance above one another and being parallel to the frame element 11, this guide element generally speaking comprising a rod bent into a flat loop having separated ends, these ends attaching to the frame element 11 one on each side of the central post 12.
The lamp supporting arms, which are adjustable along this guide element are here shown as comprising fiat straps or bars whose main lengths are in the form of arms 18 projecting forwardly from the upper guide member 15 and having lamp gripping devices, to be presently further described, mounted on their forward ends. To engage the upper guide member 15 the straps are bent into loops 19 freely engaging over said guide member, the straps extending downwardly from these loops as at 20 to engage the lower guide members 16, being bent at their ends to form eyes 21 through which the latter pass freely.
The lamp gripping devices, as here shown each comprises a pair of curved jaws 24 and 25 the former being each fixed to the corresponding arm 18 and the latter being hinged to the former at the point where it is engaged with the said arm. These jaws are formed with rearwardly extended finger pieces 2 1 and 25 adapted to be gripped between the thumb and fingers when the jaws are to be opened, each jaw 24.- being urged to closed position by a coiled spring 28 surrounding its hinge pintle 29 and bearing against said aw. These aws 2 1, 25 are jointly formed to a suitable configuration to properly engage the lamp or other lighting appliance. When used to support electric lamps the latter are connected by a flexible connection of usual type with any suitable fixture and are fitted in the jaws 24:, 25 with the latter gripping their sockets.
My improved lamp bracket may be used in various places, for instance in a bathroom for use in shaving, or on the head of a wooden bed for reading, or in various other places, and may be readily mounted in posiv on: cln
tion it; staples engaging over its frame elcment.
In Figs. 3 and l have illustrated a modiiication in which the post 12 has lined there on a flanged collar 30 adapted to be engaged by spring clips or fingers 31, 32 respec tively projecting from the ends of elongated guide frames 34 comprising upper and lower rods on which the lamp supporting arms 18 are slidably mounted. its will be apparent these guide 12 can be detached when desired from the bracket and may be engaged r'th the posts or other vertical members or a metal bed frame, or with any other desired part.
it will he understood of course, that rari s and modifications might be made in he detail construction of the two lamp brackets as en'ihodied in either figure oi the drawings without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention and the right is reserved to all such changes and n'iodifications as come within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows 1. A lamp bracket comprising a frame presenting a horizontal guide element, and a pair of lamp supporting arms adjustable along said guide element said frame having fixed extensions at the sides separate from said guide el ment ad uted to torm a shield "for the lamps supported by said arms.
2. A lamp bracket comprising a wire frame adapted to be secured to a wall or other vertical surface, said frame having fixed side elements projected "vertically thereof separate from said guide element and adapted to form lamp shields, and lamp supportingmeans adjustably carried by said frame within the confines of said guard.
ngaged with said guide element to be b other surface, a herizontal guide element on said me in t 1e form of a rod presenting a flattened loo 3 and lamp supporting arms itl a i i freely engaged r: i s id guide element said lamp supporting :lilllS hating lamp gripping means on their ent s.
5. it lamp bracket comprising a wire frame consisting of upper and lower horizontal members adapted to fit against a wall or other vertical surface and having outturned ends, Vertical elen'ients uniting said upper and lower members at the ends and centre thereof, a horizontal guide element mounted on the lower member, and lamp supporting arms adjustable alongsaid guide element.
6. A lamp bracket comprisin wire "frame consisting of upper and lower horizontal members adapted to fit against a wall or other vertical surface and having outturned endsvertical elements; uniting said upper and lower members at the ends and centre thereoi a horizontal guide element mounted on the lower member, and lamp supporting arms adjustable along said guide element, said guide element being in the form or". a flattened loop presenting upper and lower reaches, and said arms comprising straps presenting integral eyes engaging over said upper and lower reaches.
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
MYRON MAIBRUNN.
