Description

-J'. P. DAMM CARRIER TABLE ATTACHMENT INVENTOR.
,nunugzzliul ATTORNEY.
Patented ll/iay 29, 1223.
UNETEE STATES titan PATENT @FIFEE.
CARRIER-TABLE ATTACHMENT.
Application filed August 8, 1921. Serial No. 490,528.
To all whomit may concern:
Be it known that I, Join: PETER DAMM, a citizen of Germany, residing at Techny, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carrier-Table Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in paper feeding mechanism and more particularly to a carrier table attachment to in sure straight feeding of the paper stock into a paper folding machine. The device is adapted for use as an attachment to standard folding machines of which what is known as the Cleveland may be mentioned as a type.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this application and in which Fig. 1 is a top plan'view of a carrier table equipped with my auxiliary feeding and guiding mechanism.
Fig. 2 is a side view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of a belt guide employed.
Fig. 4t is a View of a belt adjusting device employed.
Lilte reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes the frame of the feed table at the ends of which I arrange a pair of rollers, 2, 3 one of which is gearconnected to the driving mechanism of the feed rollers 4, said feed rollers 4 being the rollers ordinarily used on tables of this class and disposed at an oblique angle to the sides of the frame. The roller 2 is so gear-connected to the driving mechanism that it rotates at a speed in excess of that of the feed rollers 4, the roller 3 being an idler.
The natural tendency of the feed rollers i in operation is to guide the paper against the table side guide 5 but these rollers are often inefiicient in this capacity with the result that the paper is not always fed straight into the machine. The rollers 2, 3 are connected by the belt 6 which is caused to travel through rotation of the roller 2, the position of the rollers 2, 3 in the frame being such that the belt 6 travels immediately above the table rollers 4:.
A bracket 7 secured to the frame of the table carries a casting 8 at one end on which a roller 9 is arranged that serves as a guide for the belt 6; the opposite end of the bracket 7 is bifurcated to adjustably support the belt tightener which comprises the L-shaped screw 10 threaded at both ends and moved relatively to the bracket through the medium of the nut- 11, said screw being provided also with the belt-shifting nut 12 over which the belt passes, said nut 12 being movable upon the screw to adjust the belt laterally to or away from one side of the table.
The paper when placed upon the rollers 4 to be fed into the machine and folded is placed partially upon the belt 6 also and the same running at a speed in excess of that of the rollers t shifts the paper laterally of the table in a positive manner and keeps it always in contact with the table side guide 5 so that it is fed straight into the folding mechanism.
What is claimed is 1. In paper feeding mechanism, the combination with a carrier table, of rollers arranged in the ends of the table, a belt connecting said rollers, and manually operable means ror regulating the tension of said belt and of shifting the same laterally.
2. In paper feeding mechan sm, the combination with the carrier table, of rollers arranged in the ends of the table, a belt connecting said rollers and being disposed contiguous to the table side guide and travelling immediately above the table feed rolls, and means for regulating the tension of said belt and of adjusting the same laterally.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed by signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
