Description

May 29, 1923.
J. HENNING TOOL HOLDER Filed Sept. 9. 1921 Patented May 29, 1923.
till
JOSEPH HENNING, OF NEWBUBGH, NEW YORK.
TOOL HOLDER.
Application filed September 9, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that Josnrn H nNNiNo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newburgh in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tool Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to tool holders and has for its principal object to improve upon the structure disclosed in my pending application Serial Number 430,905 filed December 15, 1920.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tool holder which will be simple and efficient in construction and well adapted to the purposes for which it is designed.
With the above and numerous other objects in View the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the tool holder;
Figure 2 is an elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a plan View of the holder with the tool and clamp removed;
Figure 4 is a plan View ofthe clamp member;
Figure 5 is a section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 4'; and,
Figure 6 is a front elevation of the holder with the tool removed therefrom.
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that l designates the shank of the holder which is provided with a head 2 having a diagonally arranged front face 6 which is provided with the transversely extending slot 5. An opening extends through the head 2 at right angles from the face 6 as shown at 3 and a nose 3 is provided on the head at one end of the face 3. An enlargement 2 is provided on one end of the head 2. The enlargement 2 is provided with an extension 7 so as to form a pocket for the too1 4 when it is in proper position. An aperture 3 is provided in the enlargement 2' for receiving the set screw 9 as shown in Figure 2 which set screw will bear against the tool 4 so as to raise and lower the same when desired.
Serial No. 499,435.
The clamp indicated generally at 11 is provided with an opening 12 adapted to register with the opening 3 so that the screw 10 may be passed through the opening for holding the parts securely together. The clamp 11 comprises the shoulders 13 and 14 which engage the tool 4 and the face 15 which abuts the face 6 and an over-hanging finger 16 which extends around the nose 3.
The tool 4 is provided with a rib 4 adapted to be received in the slot 5 of the face 6 and when so positioned will be securely held in place andmay only be adjusted vertically by means of the set screw 9 as shown plainly in Figure 2.
The fore-going description and accompanying drawing have reference to what might be considered to be the approved or preferred form of my invention. I desire it to be understood that I may make such changes in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, materials, dimensions, et ceteras, as may prove expedient fall within the scope of the appended c mm.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is:
A tool holder of the class described comprising a head having a diagonally arranged face provided with a transverse groove, an enlargement formed on the face on end thereof and provided with an over-hanging extension, a tool having a rib adapted to engage the groove and a clamp provided with a pair of shoulders for engaging one corner of the tool and a face for engaging the face of the head, an over-hanging finger provided on the clamp for engaging the side of the head, means for holding the clamp in firm engagement with the head, a threaded aperture extending through the clamp so as to terminate adjacent the tool and a set screw situated in the aperture so as to bear against the tool for raising and lowering the same.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH HENNING.
Witnesses FRANK X. SHANLEY, DAVID H. MOONSHOWER.
