UNETE STATES ADELARD E. RAYENELLE, OF NORWICH, CONNECTICUT.
SHUTTLE EYE.
Application filed December 19, 1921.
T 0 all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ADELARD E. RAVENELIE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Shuttle Eye; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved eye for shuttles whereby the tendency of the filler yarn to catch under the eye may be prevented while the eye is securely anchored in position and serves to hold the yarn out of contact with the bottom of the shuttle or the material forming the body of the shuttle adjacent to the eye, where it is subject to abrasion by which it is caused to catch in the eye; and with this object in view the invention consists in a construction and arrangement of parts of which a preferred embodiment is shown in the drawing, where- 1n:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of a fragmentary portion of a shuttle provided with an eye constructed in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is a view in side elevation;
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Figure 1, and
Figure 4 is a detailed perspective View of the eye.
The eye of which the body portion 10 is of approximately the construction conven tionally used in this connection is provided adjacent to one side of the slot 11 with a longitudinally extended lug 12 which is cross sectionally rounded on its inner surface to form a smooth running and bearing surface for the yarn, and which is sharpened at its Serial No. 523,495.
extremity as indicated at 13 to engage the material of the shuttle body 141- to hold the eye rigidly in place against turning movement. The'wall of the eye adjacent to the slot is thickened as shown at 15 as in the ordinary practice but the inner end of this thickened portion of the wall preferably that the lint or fibres are subject to catching in the eye and interfering with the proper feeding of the filler. The rounded inner surface of the lug serves to guide the yarn into the eye without the liability of frictional resistance as in the ordinary practice.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim is A shuttle eye having a longitudinally extending anchoring lug, said anchoring lug having a transversely rounded inner surface, said lug extending from said eyeat one edge of the thread receiving slot-thereof and being of a height suflicient to overlie the lower edge of the throat leading to the bobbin of a shuttle, and said lug being of substantial length and having its extremity sharpened to form an edge adapted to be driven into the wood of the shuttle to retain the eye in place.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
A. E. RTAVENELLE.
