My invention, its novel structural features, and the advantages inhering therein will be readily under-stoodb'y persons familiar with the art from the following detailed description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein I have illustrated practical embodiments of the invention adapted for use'bothas a'hanger' for window curtains and as a hanger for portieres, and in which- Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my improved curtain hanger, showing the same applied to a window frame for carrying window curtains'; Y i a a Fig; 2 is an enlarged longitudinal section through a portion of the rod and its-supporting and locking bracket;

this is assembled from apair of sheet-metal members. Fig. 4 illustrates a sheet-metal blank that is bent and crimpedto provide the body, armand attaching base or flange of the bracket. My invention, in its most complete :i'orm,.includes asimple device "for thus locking the ends of the rod vin their supporting brackets. To the inner side of the cap 21 iswsecured by a rivet 24L an inwardly extending spring hook -or catch I hookorcatch is shown bent to form a cam incline 26 terminating in a hump or protuberance .27, with a rearward extension 28 from the latter which passes through a central hole 29 inthe cap 21. As-the end of the rod section 11. is passed into the socket 16,-the inner-edge of the lip or flange 12 rides up the cam incline 26 depressing the upper limb of the catch until it passes the .hump 2-", whereupon the latter snaps upwardly behind and into locking relation withthe lip or-fiange. \Vith oneend of the rod thus entered and yieldably locked in one bracket, the .rod may be pulled out or extended and itsother end similarlyentered into and yieldably locked to the other bracket. One valuable feature of the lip or flange .12 as an element of the locking device resides in the fact that it functions with the snap hook in any relative circumferential position ofengagement of the rod and-socket, thereby making it unnecessary to turn the vrodto any particulai position betore passing it into the socket in rorder toeffectthe looking engagement ofthe two. Figs. 6 and .7 illustrate a rod supporting member embodying in part the structural principle already described, and adapted to serve as a simple support and ,lock for 1a portiere rod mounted between the inner opaosed sides of either a window or door rame. In this v form-ofthe invention, the rod may be either .a single piece rod-or an extensible telescoping rod, but the ends thereof are equipped with the same flat sheet metal washer 12. The supporting bracket essentiallycomprises merely a fiat plate30 formed with holes 31 for attaching screws, anda centralinwardly and'upwardly extending tongue -or hook 32, conveniently cut-.and bent from the ;plate 30. This bracket beingapp'lied tothe windowor door frame in thewmann'er indicated in Fig. 6, the :rod is applied and removably locked thereto by simply entering the central hole 15 over the hook 32 and letting the lip or flange 12- drop into engagement therewith. The rod'is disengaged by the greverse of this operation. To give to the bracket a neater and more finished appearance, the lower portion 'thereo'f'is"preferably provided with an integral semicircular lip or flange 33 that overlaps the lower half of the end portion of the rod. Incidentally, this 11p or flange 33 may serve in part as a support versal applicationofthe rod'to the bracket,

in the sense that it is not necessary to particularly osition the rod angularly on its axis before engaging it with the bracket.

It is believed that the structure, mode of use, and advantages of the invention will be readily understood and appreciated from the foregoing without further detail description. Obviously, the structure maybe variously modified in respect-of details withoutialtering its substantialcharacter or-sacrificing the advantages inherent therein;

Hence, .I reserve all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit and purview of the appended claims.

I claim: 7

'1. In iawcurtain fixture,-the combination ofa hollow sheet metal curtain :IOd, centrally:apertured flat sheet metal washers-fitted within the. ends of said rod and constituting transverse end walls ofthe latter,--said rod ping the periphery ofsaid washers to secure the latter in place, and supporting brackets for said rod each provided with a hook adapted to pass through and interlockingly engage with the washer in ,the adjacent end oft-he; rod.

2. In a curtainlfixture, the combination having integral. inwardlybent portions grip of a round hollow -.cur.tain rod having-at each end an inwardly extending annular lip,

supportingbrackets for said rod-eachha'v ing a round socket member adapted toreccive and encircle an'end of said rod. and a snap hook in each of said socket members automatically engaging .with .the annular lip of said rod under an inward sliding move ment of the latter. :said snap hook having a free end portion extending outside said socket member :by manipulation of which said hook may be disengaged from said lip.

3. In a curtain fixture, the combination of V a round hollow curtain rod. having-at each end an inwardly extending annular hp, supporting brackets for said rod each having a socket member adapted 'to receive an end of said rod, said socket member comprising a circular *body and an apertured cap on the outer end of said body, and a snap hook in each of said socket members automatically engaging with the annular lip of said rod under an inward movement of the latter, said snap hook having a free end extension passed through the aperture of said cap by v10 manipulation of which said hook may be disengaged from said lip.
