E5 THOMPSON CHAIR SEAT Filed March 17 Patented May 15, W23.
EARL 'rnonrson, or new YORK, n".

n ncan ii one Mai-eh 17, 1922.
To all whom it'may concern:
Be it known that I, EARL THOMPSON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of the cit of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Chair Seats, of which the following is a specification.
y invention relates to a new ful improvement in chain seats.
An object of my invention is to provide a chair seat which is an iutaglio of the human buttocks in the sitting position distributing comfortably the weight of the body; another object of my invention is to provide acheir seat which will induce correet posture and. tend to avoid and prevent mal-position'and to correct ,bad postural habits andanother object of my invention is to provide a comfortable and convenient chair seat.
Many anatomical defects, among the more prominent of; which are round shoulders, obliteration of the normal lumbar curve. latand useeral curvatiu'e of the spine, sunken chest,
prominent abdomen. inequality in the level of the shoulders and other defects with the attendant traumatic conditions result from incorrect sitting posture, and an object of my invention is to correct and overcome this condition.
I accomplish the above objects by the device illustrated inthe accompanying drawin 1's, in, which l igure 1 is ajplan view of my improved seat,
Figure 2 is resection-on the line 2-2 in Figure l.
Figure 3 iso section on the line 33 in Figure 1. 0 Figure 4 is a section on the line 4-4 in F i ure 1. v
bimilar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughoutthe several views. My improved chair seat is preferably formed or constructed of wood or like material and is provided in its upper face with a depressed saucer 1, and outlined posteriorly by a curved margin 3 which corresponds to the posterior of the buttocks of a pesron seated normally therein.
Serial no. 544,407.
Two forward shallow flaring channels etand 5 are provided, extending from the basin or saucer l to the front edge 6 of the seat. to conform to the under muscles of the legs of a. person seated thereon, and which are preferably separated by a low ridge 7.
The saucer l of the seat is outlined et its front limit by av distinct margin or edge 2 which is not sufficiently high to render it uncomfortable to person normally seated on the seat but will serve as a detercnt against the occupant slidin forward and assuming-en improper position.
' The ridge 7 between the forward channels 4 and 5 is extended rearwardly into the basin or saucer 1 in a. still lower ridge 8 which dis appears rearwardly and merges in the contour of the saucer 1.
In use I prefer to place the seat with slight inclination (.lepressing the rear at an angle of approximately 35 degrees from the horizontal. l
A, person seated in this seat will neturally assume an upright and proper position by reason of the fact that the contour of the saucer 1 Will hold the buttocks and tend in prevent careless posture. r i
Having thus described my invention, What I claim is:
1. In a chair seat, :1 rearwerdiy disposed depressed saucer adapted to position an occupant at the rear of the seat and having o front nnirginal edge extending across the shat intermediat the front and rear edges of the chair seat and two shallow channels. extending from the front margin of the saucer to the front edge of the chair seat.
2. In a chair seat. a rearwardly disposed depressed saucer having a curved forward margin adapted to position an occupant at' the rear of the seat and two shallow channels extending from the Forward margin of said depressed section tothe front edge of the seat.
Signed at New York, in thecounty of New York and State of New Yorkrthis 9th day of March, A. D. 1922.
EARL THOiiiPSO N.
