Be it known that I, NICHOLAS Goemuzzi, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ansonia, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Window- Shade Fixtures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and improved window shade fixtures, that are "secured and held in place without the aid of.

screws, nails or similar devices, and that may be adjusted to accommodate window shades of different lengths and window frames irrespective of its size.

Among other aims and objects of my invention may be recited the provision of a device of the character mentioned with a view to compactness, in which the number of parts are few, the construction simple, the cost of production small and efliciency and operation high.

The improvements in the details and arrangement of parts will be apparent from the accompanyin drawings in connection with the descript1on hereinafter contained, and wherein a preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed for the purpose of im- 30 parting a full understanding of the same.

Having more particular reference to the drawings, and in connection with which like reference characters refer to corresponding parts; designates the base member, which is preferably constructed with a head portion 11, shown herein of greater width than the bottom portion and having a foot portion 12 formed integral therewith and preferably at a right angle thereto that terminates at its outer end in a plurality of prongs or proj ections l3.

The top and bottom edges of the base member 10 are turned inwardly to' form the flanges 17 and fixed to said members in any preferred manner, is the guard plate 18, having a slot 19 therethrough, and between which and the face of the base member is an open space 20.

The arm for supporting the window shade is designated 21, this being of the usual shape at the upper end In a set, that is, a fixture for each end of the shade, one arm has a slot 22 therein and the other arm a cylindrical hole, not shown, otherwise the fixtures are the same. The inner end of this arm is provided with a foot plate 23 that passes downwardly through the open space 20 with a flange 24 at its lower end.

As thus designed a portion of the arm 21 rests upon the top of the guard plate 18 and the flange 24 against the underside thereof so that not only a rigid support is made for the arm but also a slidable one. A bolt 25 passes through the slot 26 in the base member 10, held against rotation therein by flattening two sides of the collar 27 thereon adjacent to the head 28, through an opening in the foot plate 23 and the slot 19 having a nut 29 thereon that contacts with the washer 30. By manipulation of the nut 29, the arm 21 may be moved and secured in any of its" adjusted positions.

Two brackets are used for each window shade, one upon each side of the window frame, and these are secured in place substantially as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the prongs 13 projecting into the side of the frame and holding the brackets against relative movement.

The spring 15 being connected with each of the brackets exerts its tension so as to hold the brackets in the position indicated and against accidental disengagement from the window frame.

There are minor changes and alterations that may be made within my invention, aside from those herein suggested, and I would therefore have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction herein shown and described, but claim all that falls fairly within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

Having described mv invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In a fixture of the class described, a bracket which consists of a base member having an arm portion and a head portion, the latter being of greater width than the former and having a foot portion at substantially a right angle to the arm portion, said arm portion being provided with an inwardly turned flange at its upper and lower edges, and a slot therethrough substantially parallel with its length; a guard plate secured to said arm portion with an open space therebetween and having a slot therethrough substantially opposite the slot in the arm portion of the base member; a shade arm having a foot plate thereon at substantially a right angle to that portion of said arm that supports the shade roller and projects down through said open space between the guard plate and base member, and provided with a flange at its lower end, the open space between said flange and the shade supporting portion of said arm being substantially the same width as that of said guard plate; and means projecting through said guard plate and shade arm for adjustably securing said shade arm in any of its adjusted positions relatively to said base member.

2. In a fixture of the class described, a

shade arm having a foot plate thereon at substantially a right angle to that portion of said arm that supports the shade roller and projects down through said open space between the guard plate and base member, and provided with a flange at its lower end, the open space between said flange and the shade supporting portion of said arm being substantially the same width as that of said guard plate; and means projecting through said guard plate and shade arm for adjust ably securing said shade arm in any of its adjusted positions relatively to said base member.

3. In a fixture of the class described, a bracket which consists of a base member having an arm portion and a head portion, the latter being of greater width than the former and having a foot portion at sub stantially a right angle to the arm portion, said arm portion being provided with an inwardly turned flange at its upper and lower edges, and a slot therethrough substantially parallel with its length; a guard plate secured to said arm portion with an open space therebetween and having a slot therethrough substantially opposite the slot in the arm portion of the base member; a shade arm having a foot plate thereon at substantially a right angle to that portion of said arm that supports the shade roller and projects down through said open space between the guard plate and base member, and

provided with a flange at its lower end. the.

open space between said flange and the shade supporting portion of said arm being substantially the same width as that of said guard plate; and a bolt passing through both of said slots and an opening in the said foot plate to adjustably secure said shade arm relatively to the base member.
