well as being thoroughly efficient in use.
Another object is the provision of such a device having novel means for supporting the vegetable holder from the top of a table, or the like.
A further object is the provision of a rotatable disk having cutters movable past one end of the holder for slicing the object disposed in said holder, and novel means for mounting said disk for rotationand guiding the edge thereof, to maintain the disk in proper posit-ion and permit of adjustment thereof closer to or farther away from the holder.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, which will be apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes can be, made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a rear view of the improved device.
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, portions being shown in section.
Fig. 8 is an elevation of the adjustable guide for the edge of the cutter disk.
Fig. 4 is an elevation of the disk bearing, portions being shown in section.
The holder 6 in which the vegetable or other object to be sliced is placed. is of trough or channel shape, and is disposed horizontally. Said holder is supported by a pair of legs 7 and 8 secured to the opposite sides of the holder between the ends thereof. The leg 7 has a foot 9 extending at an angle away from the leg 8, to seat on the top 11 of a table or similar support, and said foot 9 has a hook 10 to engage around and under the edge portion of the table with the leg 8 I adjacent to another edge of the table top, as seen in Fig. 2. The leg 8 has a foot 12 extending at an angle away from the leg 7 to seat on the table top 11, and .a clamp 13 is slipped over the corresponding edge portion of the table and has a clamping screw 14: for
clamping the foot 12 down on the table top 11, thereby also holding the foot 9 and book 10 firmlyin engagement with the table top, to rigidly support the holder 6., l
A sheet metal cutter disk 15 is disposed in a vertical plane transversely of the holder 6, with that portion ofthe disk at one side of the center thereof extending across. the inner end of the holder 6. The disk 15 has several radial slots 16 with the ends 17 extending at an angle. and formingcutter blades 18. which blades are bent or struck at an angle rearwardly from the disk 15 and shar iiened, whereby the disk 15 is being rotated (counter clock-wise as seen in Fig. 1) will cause the blades 18 to move downwardly across the inner end of the holder 6 for slicing the object, and the slices of material pass through the slots 16 to fall onto the table top 11 or a dish or receptacle supported thereon underneath the cutter disk 15 and inner end of the holder 6. The cutter blades 18 can be bent toward or away from the plane of the disk, for reducing or increasing, respectively, the thicknesses of the slices, as may be desired.
The cutter disk is mounted for rotation from one side of the holder 6, and, for this purpose. a longitudinal horizontal pintle 19, comprising a bolt as shown, extends through the center of the disk. for supporting same for rotation, and a pulley wheel 20 is preferablysecured by rivets or otherwise to the central portion of the disk 15 at the forward ire thereof, and serves as a hub for the disk mounted on the pintle or bolt 19. The pintle or bolt 19 extends through a bearing 21 disposed at one side of the holder 6 at the forward or inner end thereof in a horizontal longitudinal position, and said bearing has a plate 22 resting against the corresponding side of the holder 6 and secured thereto by means of bolts or screws 23, said plate having horizontal longitudinal slots 24 for the bolts 23, to enable the bearing 21 to be adjusted longitudinally, for adjusting the cutter disk 15 closer to or farther away from the holder 6, according to the amount that the cutter blades 18 are bent from the plane of the disk 15. The bearing 21 projects beyond the plate 22 to abut the disk 15, and thus enable the disk to rotate freely.
In order to guide the edge of the cutter disk and maintain the disk in proper position across the end of the holder 6, a longi tudinal plate 25 is disposed against that side of the holder 6 opposite to the bearing 21 at the inner or forward end of the holder, and has a hooked or bent portion 26 forming a notch in which the edge portion of the disk moves, whereby to prevent the disk from being sprung away from the holder 6 by the pressure of the object against the disk when slicing, the object being pushed against the disk by the hand to facilitate slicing.
The plate is secured to the holder 6 by means of bolts or screws 27 and said plate has a longitudinal slot 28 for said bolts. so that the plate 25 can be adjusted to correspond with the adjustment of the plate 22 and bearing 21.
The disk 15 is rotated conveniently by means of a crank handle 28 extending forwardly from the disk near the edges thereof. and detachably secured to the disk by means of a screw 29 extending forwardly through the disk and screw-threaded into the handle.
When it is desired to rotate the disk 15 by an electric motor, or the like, the handle 28 can be moved by removing the screw 29, and the disk can then be connected to the motor by means of a belt passing around the pulley wheel 20, thereby saving labor when considerable amount of slicing is to be done.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is A slicer comprising a channel-shaped holder, a cutter disk having cutter blades movable across one end of the holder, a bearingat one side of the holder supporting said disk for rotation, a guide member at the opposite side of the holder engaging the edge of the disk, and clamping members carried by the opposite sides of the holder, said bearing and guide member having slotted portions engaging said clamping members for the longitudinal adjustment of said hearing, disk and guide member when the clamping members are loosened.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature.
