Be it known that I, Isaac C. Sri-:Xenia a citizen of the United States, residing at Glendale, in the county of Kane and State of Utah, have invented new and useful Improvements in Rifle Sights (Case l), ot which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in sights for firearms. the general object of the invention being to provide a front sight which is provided with aplurality of colored beads for shooting at different ranges and a rear sight which is adjustable for different ranges.

Another object of the invent-ion is to provide a rear sight which can be adjusted vcrtieally and which is also provided with a rotatable member which is provided with difterent kinds of sight openings.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of a gun provided with my invention.

Figure 2 is an enlarged front view of the front sight.

Figure 3 is a side view, with parts broken away, of the front sight.

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary view of the rear sight showing the means for adjusting it vertically.

Figures 5 and 6 are detail views of this sight.

In these views A indicates the gun which is provided with the front sight 1 and the rear sight 2. The 'front sight is of the general shape of the sights now in use but the stem 1 is provided with a vert-ical row ot holes 3 in which are placed plugs 4 of difierent colors. These plugs may be of any desired material and are spaced apart so that any one may be used in shooting. The top of the sight may be formed in various ways. For instance, it may be a ball-shaped bead, as shown at 5, or it may he provided with a square top or a knife edge and the plugs may be of any desired shape.

The rear sight 2 comprises a spring plate 6 secured to the gun by the screw 7 so that its rear end can be raised and lowered. This end is formed with or connected to a vertical plate 8 which is notched, as at 9, and the walls of this notch are grooved as at 10. A second plate 11 is slidably mounted in said groove and this plate has its upper end notched, as at l2, and supports a rotatable member 13 which is provided with various sight openings 14. This member carries a pin 15 which passes through the plate 1'] and is pressed against the p ate by the spring 16 on the pin. The plate and member are provided respectively with projections and depressions 17 which engage with each other to hold the member in adjusted position on the plate, The sight openings consist of the large peep hole 18, the small hole 19, the three cut-away parts 20, one of which contains the small U- shaped notch 21 in its bottom, another a triangle 22 of ivory which is located below the bottom of the cut-away part and the third a V-shaped notch 23 and the large U-shaped notch 24 and the large V-shaped notch 25. This device is used in connection with the front sight for long distance sighting only, that is for ranges over and above that designated by the colored beads or plugs.

The rear sight is adjusted vertically by means of the slidable ladder 26.

Thus a plurality of different kinds of sights are provided on both the front and rear devices so that the gunner will have a great variety to choose from.

These sights can be used on rifles, pistols and other arms. The rear sight is used in elevated position where the beads on the front sight give insufhcient range.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of inv invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts. provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

lVhat I claim is:-

1. In a firearm, the combination with a xed front sight, of a rear sight including a spring plate having one end xed to the firearm and the other end presenting a vertical groove, a removable plate seated in the groove, a rotatably adjustable member carfied by the said plate and presenting a plu- 'alty of sigbtopenings, and an elevating member adjustable under the free end ol tbe spring plate for raising; or lowering the Said rotatable member with respect to the said liXed front sight.

2.
