UNITED STATES ALLA B. BICKHAM, OF LENOIR, LOUISIANA.
BABY HOME.
Application filed September 18, 1922. Serial 1T0. 588,685.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. ALLA B. BICE- HAM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lenoir, in the parish of De Soto and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Baby Home, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a baby home and has for its principal object to pro-- vide a vehicle containing all the necessary requisites for providing a. comfortable living quarters for a baby.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this nature which will be simple and efficient in construction, reliable in operation and well adapted to the purpose designed.
With theabove and numerous other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel features of construction and the arrangement and combination of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the vehicle embodying my invention,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal central section taken vertically therethrough,
Figure 3 is a rear elevation thereof showin' the sections extended,
igure 4: is a similar view showing the sections together,
Figure 5 is a. section taken on the line 5-5 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows,
Figure 6 is a detailed vertical section taken through the rear portion of the device showing the table extended,
Figure 7 is a fragmentary transverse vertical section taken through the device,
Figure 8 is a fragmentary enlarged sectional view showing in detail certain important constructions, and
Figure, 9 is a fragmentary sectional view taken vertically through the upper portion of one side of the device showing the operation of the cover.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that the device is mounted on the wheels 1 which may be of any preferred construction and mounted in any suitable manner. Two of these wheels are mounted upon the main frame 2 while the other twowheels are mounted uponcauxiliary or extension frame 3. As shown to advantage in Figure 5 the lower portion of the main frame 2 is divided into five compartments designated by the numerals 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Within the compartment 1 there is situated the toilet outfit 9 and a bonnet box 10. A bath tub 11 is situated in the compartment 5 and a basket 12 is situated therein. Suitable thermos devices 13 are mounted in the compartments 6 and 8 while a drawer 14 is slidably mounted within the compartment 7. Above these compartments designated by the numerals 4 to 8 inclusive there is situated a bed which is mounted upon the floor 15. A sliding. floor 16 is mounted thereon having its end connected to the sliding or extension frame 3 so as to move therewith and act as an extension to the floor 15. The bed is provided with the spring device 17 which is hinged centrally at 18 so that its sections may be folded over upon each other as shown in Figures 6 and 7.
The mattress 19 is also formed in two sec tions being hinged by the straps 20 and is extended as shown in Figure 3 and folded as indicated in Figures 6 and 7. The upper portion of the vehicle is screened.
The top 22 is hinged at 23 to the main frame 2 and is provided with a section 24 which is hinged thereto at 25 and when the main section 2 and the extension section 3 are together this cover willbe positioned as indicated in Figure 4 and when extended will be positioned as indicated in Figure 3. If so desired the cover may be allowed to hang parallel with the side of the frame 2 as indicated by the dotted lines in Figure 9 or may be raised slightl and held so by means of the slotted rod 27 w ich engages the bolt 29 having a thumb nut thereon. The section 24 is held in engagement with the cover 22 by a bolt and nut 29 as indicated in Figure 9. As indicated in Figure 7 the cover consists of a rectangular frame having stretched thereover mesh wire similar to the side portions of the bed compartment.
The end portlons of the main frame 1 are provided with the eye bolts 30 so as to receive the rod 31 which has one end fixed at 32 to the extension frame 3. Access may be had to the compartments 4 and 6 through the doors 35 and to the compartments 6 and 8 through the doors 36. In order to provide a table I have slidably mounted on. the under face of the floor.15 a platform 37 which is provided with the longitudinally extending slots 38 adjacent its side edges as shown to advantage in Figure 5 which slots engage the bolts 39 extending downwardly from the floor 15. This platform 40 is adapted to be moved outwardly from one end of the vehicle as shown to advantage in Figure 6 and has hinged to its outer end a plurality of legs 41 which are braced by the arms 42 being pivoted at one end to the edges of the table 37 while their other ends are provided with slots 43 for engaging a bolt 44 whereby the legs 41 may be folded as indicated in Figure 2.
While the preferred embodiments of my invention have been described in detail, it must be understood that I do not wish to be limited to the particular construction set forth, since various changes in the form proportions, and arrangements of parts, and in the details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, or destroying any 5. of the advantages contained in the same,
heretofore described and hereinafter claimed.
Having thus described my invention what over the extensible frame when it is ex-' tended from the main framein the manner and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature Y in presence of two Witnesses. v v
MRS.- ALLA B. BICKHAM.
