HELEN V. NORDGREN, OF GILLETTE, WYOMING.
CORSET.
Application filed Tune 23, 1921.
Be it known that l, linnn-N Y. Nolwenn-N, a citizen of the United States, residing near Gillette, in the county of Campbell and State of Wyoming, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets., of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to corsets and more particularly to those of the type known as front lace corsets.
The object of this vinvention is to provide a corset of this character so constructed that ready access to the sanitary napkin may be had at any time and the corset hek. snugly fitted at the lower portion thereof and present a smooth unobstructed appearance there being no protuberances such would render the wearing of a single skirt impossible.
Another object is to provide a garment of this character with means for holding the stays or bones against longitudinal move-I ment.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then speciiicially pointed out in the claims,y and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention.
ln the accompanying drawings Figure 1 represents a front elevation slightly in perspective of the corset constituting this invention shown applied.
Fig. 2 is a rear elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged rear elevation of the corset showing the flap in openv position.
Fig. 4 is a detail transverse section taken on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2, and
Fig. 5 is a similar view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
In the embodiment illustrated a corset 1 is shown having'stay receiving casings 2, the stays o1' bones 14 being held securely within this casing by means of eyelets 3 which prevent all possibility of the bones moving longitudinally in the casing and working out through the tops or bottoms as frequently occurs with those not so held. Any desired number of these eyelets may be used, preferably being used throughout the length of the stays.
This corset 1 is provided at the center back portion thereof at its lower edge with a longitudinally extending slit 4 finished in any suitable manner and having an elastic pinning member or strap 5 secured to thel Serial No. 479,862.
inner face of the corset at the inner endof the'slit as is shown clearly in Fig. 3.
A cover flap 6 is i'ixedly'secured at one side edge 'to the lower portion of the corset as shown at 7 and is adapted to overlie the slit 4 in the corset whenin closed position f and be held in such position by snap fasteners shown at 8, said fasteners being preferably celluloid covered, although not necessarily so.
An elastic fabric section 9 is carriedby the lower portion of the flap 6 and isdesigned to permit the corset lto yield around its lower edge to insure the comfort of the wearer when bending or stooping or otherwise moving. The snap fasteners 8 are arranged across the corset at a point above the slit 4 therein and down one side at av point spaced from the slit so that when the iapi 6 is closed and snapped into position it will present a smoothappearance as shown in Fig. 2 and will completely conceal the slit and yet ready access theretoy may be provided by simply disengaging the fasteners in the manner well understood.
A flap 10 is also employed in the front of the corset being Xe-dly secured adjacent one front edge thereof as shown at 11 and detachably connected at its other side edge to the other front edge of the corset by snap fasteners indicated at 12 and which are preferably Celluloid covered to prevent any possibility of rusting or injury to the garments of the wearer incident to the use of metal fasteners of this character.
An elastic pinning strap 13 is carried by the Hap 10 preferably secured at one end to the lower end thereof as is shown in Fig. 1, and cooperates with the trap 5 at the rear of the corset to support a sanitary napkin in the well known manner.
From the above description it will be obvious that a corset constructed as herein described and shown will present a smooth neat appearance when the flaps are in closed position as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and yet these flaps may be readily opened when found desirable to do so.
The bone retaining eyes or eyelets shown at 3 extend through the casing 2 and the body portion of the corset 1 also through the bone shown at 14 and the ends of these eyelets are upset as shown in Fig. 4 to prevent their accidental detachment and they operate to securely hold the stays or bones 14 against longitudinal movement in their casings 2, thus avoidingl objectionable working through at their upper and lowerv ends in the casings of these bones which often causes much discomfort to the wearer of the cor-y set in addition to pnncturing the other garments. v
The preferred embodiment ofthe invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specification,l but it will. be understood that any modifications within the vscope ofthe claimed invention may be made in the construction without departingv from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
What is claimed is 1. A corset of front lace type comprising avbody member having its lower portion centrally of its back provided with a slit opening at the bottom edge of said body member, a pin strap secured to the inner face of said body member above and underlying said slit,
- a bendable closureflap having one side edge thereof secured to said body member adjacent to one side of the slit and formed with an elastic lower portion, said flap adapted to extendover 'and conceal. saidslit and said body member and ap' having associated means for connecting the other side thereof and its top to thebody member above and at the other side of the slit.
2. corset of front lace type comprising a bodymember having its`lower portion centrally of its back provided with a slit opening'at the bottom edge of said body member, a pin strap secured to the inner face of said 'body member above and underlying said and its ,top to the bodymemberfabove"and at the other side of the slit, andajbendable front flap having one end securedV to the lower portion of one end of said body member at the front thereof and said front flap having its free end-and said bodyvmember provided with associated means for' connecting the said free .end to the other end of the body member, whereby said flap will' eX-v tend across the opening between the ends of said body member at thefront thereof, and
a pinning strap depending from'said' front flap. i
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature hereto. 'i L HELEN-y; NORDGREN, j
