Application filed May 19, 1922.
This invention is a pick or tool handle,
and the chief object is to provide a simple and efiicient form of handle, Whichinay be readily adjusted to the pick head, or removed therefrom, as desired. Another object is to provide a handle which Will stand up under the stress of use, and at the same time will have a certain resiliency in the hands of the Workman, rendering it less fatiguing in use.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through a pick equipped with this improved handle.
Figure 2 is a detail of the two-piece head socket.
Fi ure 3 is a detail of the head Wedge.
Figure 4- is a detail or" the threaded handle 1 e. p l igure 5 is a detail of the collar fitting over the tapered ends or" the head socket.
Figure 6 is a detail of the hollow Wooden handle fitting over the handle pipe shown in Figure 4:.
Figure 7 is a detail of one of the ferrules encircling each end of the hollow handle to prevent splitting.
Figure 8 is a detail of the end collar for the free end of the handle.
Figure 9 is a detail of the threaded belt for screwing down into the threaded end of the handle pipe at the free end of the handle. The invention includes a Wooden handle 1, having a longitudinal bore 16, and tearrules 2 at its ends, and adapted to freely receive the handle pipe 3, which is interiorly threaded at each of its ends i and 5. The pipe 3 is somewhat shorter than the handle Serial No. 562,153. n
While We have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assem= bling the elements of our invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details. not departing from the spirit of our in- 'vcntion as defined in the appended claim.
We claim:
In combination With a tool head having an eye, a removable handle therefor; comprising a Wooden handle having a longitudinal bore there-through; a handle pipe threaded interiorly in each end and adapted to pass Within the bore of the Wooden han die; a two-piece, tapered head socket adapted to engage the eye of the tool; a collar to fit over an end of the handle pipe and receive the tapered ends of the head socket; a threaded Wedge to pass through the head socket and threadedly engage that end of the pipe; a collar for the free end of the handle; and a threaded bolt to pass through the last mentioned collar and threadedly engage that end of the pipe.
