Patented ar. i3, 1923.
UNITED ATES HARRY E. LIEDSTRAND, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
WATER- HEATER.
Application filed April 18, 1922. Serial No. 555,091.
To all 'whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. LIEDSTRAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and `useful Improvements in l/ater Heaters, of which the following is a speciiication.
My invention is a hot water heater constructed and arranged to be mounted on a gas stove for heating water for a domestic boiler.
Referring to the annexed drawing in which my invention is illustrated and which forms a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a front view of my wateil heater mounted on a gas stove and connected to a domestic boiler.
Figure 2 is a plan view of my heater.
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section of my water heater taken on line 3 3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional View of the heating chamber taken on line 4 4 of Figure 3.
My heater includes a burner plate 1 and a water heating chamber 2 formed on the under side of said plate, said plate and said chamber both .being rectangular in shape. except that the inner side of said chamber is curved at the ends of the chamber. The plate 1 is supported on legs 3 by means of which my heater is mounted on the top of a gas stove 4. The plate 1 is provided with two openings 5 and 6 near its ends respectively and within the ends respectively of the water chamber 2, which openings rest over the burners 7 and 8 respectively of the gas stove. The chamber 2 is formed with a hollow extension 9 extending inwardly from its left end longitudinally of the plate 1 into the opening 5, and with a pair of oppositely disposed hollow extensions 10 and 11 which extend transversely into said opening, said extensions curving downwardly at their extremities. An extension 12 is formed on the plate 1 which extends longitudinally of the plate into the opening 5 opposite the extension 9, said extension 12 curving downwardly at its extremity. The chamber 2 is formed with a hollow extension 13, extending inwardly from the right end of the plate 1 into the opening 6, and with a pair of oppositely disposed hollow extensions 14 and 15 which extend transversely into said opening, said extensions and 16 respectively, said walls dependingfrom the plate 1 or upper wall of the cham ber 2 over half the depth of the chamber and extending from the outer wall of said chamber into the rear portion of said tongues, said deflectors causing the water to circulate partly under themv and partly through said extensions which are the hottest part of the chamber, being within the flameof the burner. An inlet 17EL and an outlet 18 are' provided in the left end of the chamber 2 at the left end Jcorners of said chamber, to which are respectively connected inlet pipe 19 and outlet pipe 20 of a domestic boiler 21. An inlet 22 and an outlet 23 may also be provided in the left end corners of the chamber for connection with the boiler when at the right of the chamber, said inlet and outlet being closed by plugs 24 when not in use.
The water circulating from the inlet 17 through the chamber 2 around the burners 7 and 8 and through the extensions 9, 10, 11, 14, 15 and 16 and out through the outlet 18 is effectively heated for the boiler 21.
Having described my invention, I claim:
A water heater adapted to be mounted on the burners of a gas stove comprising a rectangularly shaped hollow member, said member being provided with openings for said burners, hollow extensionsl on said member projecting into said opening and having their ends curved downwardly into said openings, deiiector plates mounted in vertical positions in said member, some of said deflector plates being located in said extensions through the center thereof and adapted to cause adequate circulation of water within said member, means for connecting said member at one corner to a water discharge pipe and means for connecting said member at another corner to a water intake pipe.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
