To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WLADISLAUS Bnrzcrs, a citizen of Lithuania, residing at Turners Falls, in the county of Franklin and State of Massachusettts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supports for Pictures or the like, of which the following is a specification.

In the form of the invention shown in Fig. '1 of the drawings the reference numeral 10 indicates a rectangular frame in which is placed a picture 11. The details of construction whereby the frame engages the picture are not shown as the same have no reference to the resent invention. Y

F ixe d on-the top of the frame is a socket 12 in which is received a "ball 13 on the cm! of a bent rod 14. forming the upper end of a strut whose lower end is formed by a hollow bar 15 into which the rod telescopically projects, being secured in selected positions by a set screw 16.

The lower end of the strut 14, 15 is pivotally connected as at 18 with an approximately horizontal arm 19 having a cross piece 20 at one end which acts as a support for the lower end of the frame, the back of the latter resting freely against the cross piece. The other end of the arm is in the form of a wood screw 21' which may be screwed into any desired surface to support the frame,'a disk-flange 22 at the base of the I screw limiting the movement thereof.

* In the embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. 2 and 3 the frame 10 and strut co-mprising rod 14 and hollow bar 15 are the same as shown in Fig. 1. In this construction however, instead of the one-piece bracket arm 19 I providean arm composed of two members 25 and 26 the former having a cross-piece 27 at one end, andthe latter a wood screw 28 at its opposite end. These members overlap one another at their adjacent ends, which are longitudinally slotted as at 29, and are secured together, and to the lowerend of the hollow bar 15. by a nut 30 threaded on a screw 31, this screw passing. through a suitable aperture in the and through the slots-29. By reason of the telescopic construction of the strut, and the adjustable two part construction of the supporting arm, the frame 10 may be mounted at substantially any desired angle.

If it is so desired the frame may be adjusted to rest freely on a horizontal surface, as indicated in Fig. 3, the member 26 being adjusted to a vertical position, while the sleeve 34 is screwed downwardly until the wood screw 28 is covered, the'fiange 35 forming the foot of the support.

Having thus des'cribedmy invention what I claim as newand desire to protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows: a I

1. In combination, a frame, a strut secured to the upper portion of said frame by a universal joint, said strut consisting of two parts having telescopic connection with one wood screw at one end adapted to be secured in a fixed supporting element and a cross piece at the other adaptedto have the lower part of the frame rest thereagainst.

2. In combination, a frame, a strut se cured to the upper portion of said frame by a universal joint, said strut consisting of two parts having telescopic connection with one another, an arm to which said strut is attached at its lower end, said arm having a wood screw at one end adapted to be secured in a fixed supporting element and a cross piece at the other adapted to have the lower part of the frame rest thereagainst, said arm comprising two members having hinge connection with one another.

3. In combination, a frame, a strut secured to the upper portiono'f said frame by a uni- .dversal joint, said strut consisting of two parts having telescopic connection with one another, an arm to which said strut is attached at its lower end, said arm having a wood screw at one end adapted'to be secured in a fixed supporting element and a cross piece at theother. adaptedto have the lower part of the frame, rest thereagainst, said arm comprising two members having hinge connection with one another, and a sleeve adjustable along said arm tocover said-screw, for the purpose specified.

In combination, a frame a strut secured to the upper portion of said frame by a universal joint, said strut consisting of two parts having telescopic connection with one another, an arm to which said strut is attached at its lower end, said arm having a wood screw at one end adapted to be secured in a fixed supporting element and a cross piece at the other adapted to have the lower part of the frame rest thereagainst, said arm and comprising twosections having longitudinally slotted overlapping ends, fastening means passing through said'slotted ends and the lower end of said strut, a woodscrew' on the other end of one of said members, adapted to engage inwa fixed support and a foot adjustable along said member to cover said wood screw.
