Be it linownthat Llilnnswonrn. it. tireur,
az citizen oil the `United ,citate/s oi iin'ierica, residing at` `.lichmoinl Hill, county oi Queens, Stateoi New Yorin, h^ ve invented ln the most `preterred form oi the inveintion,`
means are provided, in combination with a set ot'spixral `heating coils, #for additionally V `heating tllezheaterfl water delivered by sach sot or sets or spiral heating coils, the `whole beinCr arranged to reduce losses otheat to a .b i, C i
minimum. f i
Further features and objects oi? the in` ventionare more :fully set forth in the `tollowing description and the accompanying drawing, showing in vertical elevation partly in vertical section, one embodiment oi the invention.
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the burner of any approveditype, and 2 the casing, usually provided with the outlet 3, for the discharge oi: the products oi2 combustion, which outlet maybe varied orniodified according to circumstances, as will be understood.
4 represents a set of heating coils, suitably connected at one end 5 with the cold water supply pipe 6. The discharge end ot such a set of spiral coils 4 is indicated at 7.
'llo such discharge 7 is connected the `additive heater 8 comprising the main chamber 9 extending from aregion in adjacent heatfio ing relation to the burner 1 upwardly, and preferably through the outlet 3 of the casing 2, said additive heater 8 being connected at its upper end te the riser 1 ()l` and thus with theboiler or reservoir 11. rlhe discharge pipe of the reservoir 11 is indicated at 12.
Preferably, also, the connection of the main chamber 9 with the discharge terminal 'i' ofthe heating coils 4, is effected by means of the pipe 131 arrangedas a chamberdisposed inwardly or withintheadditive heater chamber 9 and discharging at its lower end p 14 into the lowermost portion 15, as indi cated` by the arrows 16.
Such preferred form of the invention proi vides the reduced region 17, of more or less annular formation, immediately adjacent the outer `wall of the additiveheating chamber the inner or other liuid` is `subjected directly to the heat of the flame oit the burner 1, and. provides further for the passage of the water or other fluid, previously heated in the coils water or other liquid in theadditive hea-ting chamber 9 of higher temperature.
To "attain more fully the aforesaid results` the chambers 9,13, either or both, are corrugated, as by threading, or otherwise provided with projecting, relatively thin por- `tions 18, to increase the transference olheat.
VFor simplicity of manufacture and. assein bly, the `outer chamber 9 and inner chamber 18 may be formed oi pipe of lproper diam eters, the outer pipe being' closed at its lower end by the cap 19 and connected at itsupper end to the riser by means of the reducer 20. The connection of the discharge end 7 ot the coils 4 may be simply attained by means of the pipe section 21, threaded at one end into the openings 22, 23, respectively of pipe 13 and outer pipe 9, and connected with by means of the elbow 24, nipple and the union 26.
Preferably, as shown, the connection of the .section 21 with the inner chamber or pipe .i3 is effected by means of the reducer 27, connected at its larger opening 28 with the chamber' or pipe 13 and its smaller open ing 29 communicating interiorly of the outer reducer 20, whereby upon lighting` the burner l, .heated water is supplied to the boiler or reservoir 11 initially jointly from the chamber 9 and the coils 14. Such ar-` rangement is advantageous in that a larger quantity of heated water is supplied promptly after first lighting the burner.
Under conditions of continued heating by the burner, by reason of the additive heater 9 being disposed in the region of higher temperature as compared with the coils 4, the ellective temperature of the water in the additive heater chamber 9 becomes y more land more -increased and accordingly upon 9, whereby a relatively thin layer of water i `4,. through the chamber' 13 surrounded by i lll) ` the spirit of the invention, as delinea appended claims.
warm water in large quantity upon initial lightingl of the burner andvinaterialy increasing the temperature or additively heating the Water upon continued lighting of the burner, is particularly effective when the Water is caused to flow through the discharge 12, i. e., by turning' on the faucet.
The invention applicable in use as en attachment of the additive heater to au ordinary hot water heater provided with such set or vsets of spiral coils, such attachment beingreadilyv effected without disturbii'nr the water heater when the latter has been pretiously installed.
l/Vhereas I have described my invention by reference to speci'ie forms thereof, it will he 'understood that many changes and ineditieations may be made without departing from by the I claim:
l. AWater heater comprising a burner. a casing, a vertically extending hollow coil tor the passage o't the water and disposed above said burner, a hollow passage member disposed above said burner and Within said coil, anoutflow passage member 'for the outflow of heated water Jfrom said coil and from said hollow passage nienibe and a T-eoxineetion coininunififatineA with said coil and said hol low passage member and said outllow pas sage member.
2. A. water heater comprising a lnnfner` :i casing, a vertically extending' hollow eoil 'l3nthe passage oit the water and disposal above said burner, a vertically extending passage member disposed above said burner :ini-l within said coil, an outflow pas. e member and a T-connection connecting: sind efnl and said hollow passage member in eennnon with said outflow passage member.
water heater comprising' a burner. a casing, a vertically extending hollow eoil 'for the pa ssa gre ol the water and disposed within said casina.,- above said burner, a tube elem-ll at its lower end, a second tube eaienlliznr within said first named tube and coinlnxini eating at one end with the interior oli said irst named tube, an outflow passage member 'for the outliow oi the heated water and :i T-connection between said eoil` the other end of; said second named tube and said ouille-w passage member.
In testimony whereof l have signed this specification this 14th. day oit ctoher`r '17919.
