JG! C! DISPLAY DEVICE,
FILED JULY 19. 1922.
Patented Feb. 6, 1923.
e... uw, Time "r fra- (irl rid nu is F! 'I DISPLAY DEVICE.
Application filed July 19,
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE C. HELM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbia, in the county of Boone and State 01' Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
trlhis invention relates to display devices, vand more particularly to axture for use in displaying a featured article which is on sale.
An important object of the invention. is to provide a device of this character which may be employed for displaying an article through a window, door or the like which is ordinarily not used for display purposes.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which 1s detachably connected to a door or window and in which the fixture applied to the door or window is such that it does not interfere with. the normal operation thereof when the display stand is removed, thereby permitting the use of the display stand at en trances and the like.
still further object of the invention is to provide a display stand having means whereby the door or window to which it is attached will be illuminated, thereby permitting ready illumination of the entrance doors and the like, which disposed between the display windows of the store, are not ordinarily illuminated and present an unattractive and forbidding appearance.
in additional object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily attached to a door and detached therefrom, which is pleasing in its appearance, and elicient and durable in service.
These and other objects I attain by the construction and arrangement shown in the accompanying drawings wherein for the purpose ot illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a front elevation of a display bracket constructed in accordance with my invention;
Figure 2 is a sectional view partially in elevation showing the device attached to a door; and
1922. Serial No. 576,082.
Figure is an enlarged section on the line 3-3 of Figure l.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 10 designates the 60 framing of a door or window, and ll the usual transparent element held by the frau ing. l2 indicates an attaching plate secured to the framing of the door or window and lhaving formed thereon spaced loops 13. A
bracket is provided consisting oi' a preferably tubular member 11i, the lower end oit which is flattened, as indicated at 15, :t'or engagement with the loops 13 of the plate 12, this iiattened portion being arranged at a slight angle t0 the body of the bracket so that the bracket inclines upwardly away from the point of attachment. The upper end of the bracket has secured thereto in any suitable manner an enlarged head 16 75 having an opening 17 formed therethrough.
The numeral 18 designates a shelie having secured to the under surface thereor" adjal cent its rear edge, a plate 19 which is provided forwardly with an oiiset portion 2O 8o -a vertically directed threaded opening 22 e0 which is adapted for the reception of the lower end of a conduit or standard 23, the upper end of which is directed downwardly toward the shelf 18 and overhangs the same, as indicated at 24C. support for a lamp socket 25 and a shade 26 directing the rays of Ia lamp held within the socket downwardly upon the shelf. The conduit 23 serves as a housing for the wiring 27 for A wiring preferably extending below the lower end of the tubing and being' provided with an attaching' plug 28.
It will be obvious that with a construction such as hereinbefore described, be supported with its :forward edge closely adjacent the transparent pane of the door or window in which the exhibitor is employed and that the light directed downwardly upon the shelf will bring the article held lle thereby into plain view. it the same time the support is of such a character that it orf the head 16 abuts the 85 This upper end forms a the lamp.r the lower end or". the
the shelf ma),v
presents a pleasing` appearance and may be readily attached `to or detached troni the door so that it will not be in the way durlng working hours when the door or window, as the case may be, is in use. The upper sur face of the shelf is preferably provided adjacent the rear edge thereof with a longitudinally extending slot or kerf 29 adapted tor the reception of the lower end of an advertising card, the upper edge oit which may rest against the conduit 23 so that the card may be employed for giving the price and similar data with regard to the article, and may at the same time be readily removed. lt will be obvious that many changes in the construction as hereinbefore set forth are possible without materially departing from the spirit of my invention and accordingly do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to such specific struct-ure except as hereinafter claimed.
l. claim l. ln a shelf support, a bracket including a head having an opening therethrough, a shelf having a plate secured thereto, the forward end of the plate beii 1;" oil'setfrom the shelf and engaging in said opening, the upper surface of said head abutting the under surface of the shelf, the otlset end of said plate being removable from the opening of said head by movement of said shellz in a. plane paralleling said opening.
2. In combination with a door, window or the like embodying a frame and a transparent element held by the frame, an attachplate. secured to the traine and embodying loops, a. shell support-ing bracket provided at its lower end with a flattened portion adapted to engage in said loops and maintain 'the shelf supported thereby with the forward edge thereojl adjacent the transparent element held by the frame, said bracket including` a shelf attached plate, the rear end of said plate extending rearwardly beyond the rear edge of the shelf, and a. lighting standard supported by the rear end of the plate.
3. ln combination with a door, window or the like embodying a` frame and a transparent element held by the frame, an attaching plate secured to the frame and embodying loops, a shelf supporting bracket provided at its lower end with a flattened portion adapted to engage in said loops and maintain the shelf supported thereby with the forward edgethereof adjacent the transparent element held by the frame, said bracket including a shelf attached plate, the rear end of said plate extending rearwardly beyond the rear edge of the shelf, said rear end being provided with a vertically directed threaded opening, a conduit engaged in said opening and having its upper end reverted and directedI downwardly toward theshelf, a soclret carried by said upper end, and lead wires for said socket extending through said conduit.
41. ln combination with a door, window or the like embodying a frame and a transparent element held by the frame, a shelf to be supported, an attaching plate secured to the frame below the transparent element and en'ibodying loops, a shelf supporting bracket provided at its lower end with a iiattened portion adapted to engage in said loops and extending upwardly from such flattened portion and inclining away from said transparent elcn'ient, a head at the upper end of said bracket engaging the lower surface of the shelf to support the same with the forwardedge thereof in proximity to the transparent element and in vertically spaced relation to the attaching plate, and a plate carried by said shelf and engageable with .said head by movement of the shelf in a straight line in one direction, said plate preventing shifting and tilting of said shelf upon said head.
ln a shelf support, a bracket including a head adapted to enga-ge the under surface of the shelf in spaced relation to the edges thereof and having an opening therethrough, a plate adapted for attachment to the shelf having a forward end portion vertically olfset from the lbody portion thereof and adapted for sliding lit in the'opening of said head., the body portion of the plate being adapted to extend beyond the rear edge of the shelf, and a` lighting standard supported by the rear end of the body portion of the plate.
ln testimony whereof l hereunto ailix my signature',
GERGE C. HELM.
