MASSAGE DEVICE.
Application filed August 13, 1921. Serial No. 492,080.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Jon U. iiimnnc, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Albuquerque, in the county of Bernalillo and State of New lv'ieaico, have invented a new and l rn n'oved h lassage Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in massage devices of the general character disclosed in Letters Patent of the United States No. 1,380,986, issued to me on June 7th, 192i.
An object of this invention is to provide a massage device in the form of a container; to provide means for facilitating the filling of the container; and to provide a novel form of locking means for holding the cover in position on the container.
A still further object is to provide a Inassage device, which will be neat and attrac tive in appearance, simple in construction,
, watertight, durable and efficient in use, and
comparatively inexpensive to manufacture. With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a view in longitudinal section through the device on the line 1,1 of Figure 2;
Figure 2 is an edge view of the device; Figure 3 is a top plan view of the container with the cover removed; and
Figure 4 is a plan view of a spring metal strap 14 and its associated lever 21.
Referring in detail to the drawings, 1 represents a container which includes a bottom 2 and side walls 3. The container is substantially elliptical in cross section and. is flattened and indented at the ends of the ellipse, as indicated at 4, in Figure 3. The elliptical shape of the container provides a pair of massage surfaces 5 and. 6, the surface 5 being perfectly smooth and the sur face 6 being transversely ribbed or corrugated, as indicated at 7. Adjacent the open end of the receptacle, outwardly presented lugs 8 extend into the finger receiving depressions.
9 represents the convexly curved container cover which includes an annular flange 10 fitting within the open end of the container and which is annularl grooved, dicated at ii to accommodate a rubber ga ket l2 engageahle with the container, Theo-as ket l2 insures a watertight connection bc twcen the cont iner and cover.
This invention resides partially in the novel means for retaining the cover in positlon on the container. It will be seen that the cover is formed on its outer face with a groove 13 to accommodate a spring metal strap 14. The strap is formed adjacent each end with an openin 15 adapted to receive one of the lugs 8. ne end of the strap is coiled back upon itself to provide a hearing sleeve 16., A curved lever 21 includes adjacent its intermediate portion a pair of ears 22. A pin 23 passed through the bearally connect the lever and the strap. The
lever 21 includes a handle member 17 at one end and a curved extension 18 at its other end which normally fits under one of the lugs 8 and absolutely locks the strap 14: in position. In order to remove the cover from the container it is necessary to place the finger under the handle 17, the extension 18 of the lever will then fulcrum on the lug 8 and one end of the strap 14: will be pulled out from the side of the cam and will slip over the 111 The particular construction for securing; the container cover to the container not onlv provides a watertight receptacle, but also facilitates the filling of the container since the container with this form of cover is provided with a relatively wide mouth through which various temperature regulating agents may be introduced.
Although I have illustrated one of the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will'be apparent that various slight changes and alterations might be made in the general form and arrangement of the parts described without departing from the invention and hence I do not wish to limit my self to the precise details of construction, but shall consider myself at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairlv fall Within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
I claim: I
1. In a massage device, an open ended receptacle, a convexly curved cover normally closing the open end of said receptacle, outwardly presented lugs on the opposite sides of the container adjacent its open end, said cover having a groove therein, a metal strap having its intermediate portion accommo-- its intermediate ortion bent over the cover and having openings in its ends receiving the lugs to hold the strap in bent position.
3. In a massage device, an open. ended receptacle provided with exterior massaging surfaces and adapted to receive temperature regulating agents, a convexly curved cover closing said receptacle, diametrically opposed outwardly presented lugs adjacent the mouth of the receptacle, a normally straight spring metal strap adapted to have its intermediate portion bent over the cover, and having openings in its ends receiving the lugs to hold the strap in bent position, and means associated With one end of the strap and fulcruming under one of the lugs for releasing said strap.
