Be it known that I, DONALD DONALD, a subject of the King ofGreat Britain and Ireland, residing at Rushcutters Bay, Syd
ney, New South Wales, Australia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Door Locks, ofwhich the following is a specification. 1 1 v This invention relates to door locks of the type having a tubular casing, and the object of the invention is to effect certain improvements whereby (a) the length of the casing can be reduced so that it can be fitted to light cheap doors having narrow stiles, (6) whereby the cost of manufacture is reduced and ('0) whereby the springs controlling the moving partsare strengthened thus increasing the efliciency and add,- ing to the life of the lock.
A further improvement is that the handles which operate the lock boltare ren dered silent in operation. 7 l j The improved lock is constructed in two longitudinal sections hereinafter referred to as A and B which are'adapted to be placed and held together to. form a'complete tubular cased lock, with spring controlled bolt C, locking mechanism D, and operating, handles E.

The lock casing B is similar in cross sec? with their internal-fittings ate, dapted to be assembled as shown in Figure 14 reform a. tubularlock. The casing 13 has projecting segmental key wards 34l,'and aperture 35 so positioned that when the sections are assembled they directly oppose the key wards shown in Figure 10, and is held in its normal projected position by a coil spring 37 which bears between the fixed bracket in casing B and cross studded partition 38 on bolt C. A stud 50 projects inwards from the bolt C and is so positioned as to en gaged when desired by the oscillating plate 5 of the locking mechani'sm'l) tor the purpose of securing the bolt in the proj'ected or withdrawn position. The rear end of the bolt 0 is in the form of a disc] 39 which is movable in the rear portion of the tubular casing formed when the sections A and B: are assembled by the operation of pivoted lever handles E. a
The operating ends 44 of handles E which are pivoted at 40' in anchor plates 41 pass through holes 42in door stile 4 3 and enter the, tubular casing of the look through the opposingapertures 26 and therein. so as to engage the disc 39 to operate ,the bolt 0 inwards against the pressure of spring 3''? as illustrated in Figures 11 and 13. Rubber sleeves 45 are provided on the short arms 44 in order to deaden' any sound that i may be caused by making contact with the 28"and enablingthe key on being further disc 39. The operation of the locking mechanism is as follows :Normally the bolt C is free to be moved backwards or forwards for the reason that the stud 50 which projects therefrom has an unobstructed path of travel. When it is desired to lock the bolt C in the projected position the oscillating plate 5 is rotated to bring the projection 32 thereon intothe path of the stud 50 on bolt G as shown, in Figure 8. This is accomplished by a key 51 with clefts 52 adapted to engage the wards 24 and 34;: which after being inserted through the 'k6 \'TW:Ly 25 is adapted on rotation to first move the slide plate l'rearwards thus, tr'eeingthe oscillat ing; plate 5 from engagement with the stud rotated to oscillatethe plate 5 in either direction so as to bring the projection v31 thereon into position either above or below thestud28 on plate 4. As soon as the key looses contact with the plate 4E the plate springs back into its normal position and holds theplate 5 in its set position either out of or in the pathot the stud 50. An improved tubular lock for doors comprising a longitudinally dividedol-iter tubular casing having a face plate, key apertures and lover apertures and a bolt having a projecting stud within said casing actuated outwards by a spring bearing against a fixed bracket, and inwards by pivoted levers having rubber sleeves adapted to bear against its rearward end; and a bolt lockingmecha-nism consisting of a sliding plate with a spring and a projecting stud. an oscillating plate adapted to be moved about a fixed pin into or out of the path of the first mentioned projecting stud substantially as herein described and illustrated in the drawings.

A door lock comprising a tubular lock casing constructed intwo corres mnd-ing longitudinal sections adapted to be fitted together each of which is semi-circular in cross-section and has at one end a semi-circular end plate and one of; which has at theother end an anchor plate formed. with a bolt aperture and screw holes, a portion, of the interior of one of said sections being thickened to f orni a fiat bed plate in which is'formed a recess adapted to house a coiled spring, and a rectangular aperture between the bed plate and the semi-circular end plate and the other section of which is formed with a rectangular aperture opposed to the rectangular aperture in said first mentioned section and with a projecting bracket at the forward end of said aperture, both of said sections havingsegmental key wards pro-- vided on each side oi a key way out in the wall oi the casing. i
