PICTURE HANGING Jf-LT'TIAUHMJENT.
Application filed January 15, 1916, Serial No. 72,19 Renewed June 5, 1922.
To all whom. it may concern W Be it known that l, latens B. BAKER, residing at New Yorr, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented .5 certain new and useful improvements in Picture Hanging Attachments, ct which the i ollowing is a specification.
This invention relates to a picture hangin attachment.
the particular object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive device whereby a picture hanging upon a. wall may be quickly and easily adjusted to hang in a proper position.
A more specific object is to provide devices which may be connected at opposite sides of the picture frame, the supporting cords of the frame being connected to said devices, and said devices comprising adjustable parts by means of which one side or the other of the frame may be raised or lowered.
Other objects and aims oi the invention, more or less specific than those referred to above. will be in part obvious and in part pointed out in the course oi the liollowinggr lilescription ot the elernei'its combinations, arrangements of parts and applications oi principles, constituting the invention; and the scope of protection contemplated will be indicated in the appended claims.
in the accompanying drawings which are to be taken as a part of this specification. and in which I have shown a merely preferred form of embodiment of the inven tion:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a device constructed in accordance with. the provisions of this invention.
' Figure 2 is a rear View of apicture frame showing a pair of the devices of Fig. 1 con nected thereto and illustrating the support inn; cords connected to said devices.
Referring to the drawings for a detailed description of the construction illustrated therein the reference character ll indicates a rod preferably of metal, said rod being threaded for a part of or throughout its length. The opposite ends of the rod are tormed with enlargements, as l and 2.
A threaded sleeve G is fitted upon the rod l1 rotatable for longitudinal adjustment along said rod. The opposite ends of the sleeve are formed with annular flanges 3.
The enlargement 1 at the upper end of the rod prevents detachment of the sleeve from serial No. 566,191.
the upper end of the rod, while the enlar einent flat the lower end of the rod preve'i its detachment ot the sleeve from said lower end.
In order to connect the device to the picture frame, a screw-eye, or the like, at is pro vided, the eye portion being disposed to loosely encircle the il'itermediate part of the sleeve G.
The enlargement 1 at the upper end of the rod is provided with a suitable aperture 5 through which the supporting; cord, as 6, in Fig". 2 may be connected.
ln order to provide for a quick and ellicient attachment of the supporting cord, however an auxiliary attaching device H is provided. This attaching device comprises simply a piece of wire bent into a loop having its opposite ends overlapping and hookshaped as shown. l n order to attach the f acture frame supporting cord within the wire loop said cord is slipped in between the lapping portions of the loop and twisted upon itself as shown in Fig. 1.
in use the device is attached to the picture frame by inserting the screw-eye 4 into the frame in the usual manner. The cords 6 may be attached either before or after the screw-eyes are inserted.
After the picture is hung, one side or the other may be raised or lowered by simpl rotating the sleeve about the rod.
The operation of the devices in each instance is the same. The Flanges 3 of Fig; 1 serve to retain the rod against undue longitudinal movement through the screw-eye at all times. i
it will be apparent that although two separate supporting; cords; 6 are shown in Fig. 2, it is nevertheless obvious that a single cord may he employed if desired. in which instance the cord would be simply looped. over a single picture hanger 10, in the usual manner and the opposite ends .would be connected to the devices upon the picture trame.
It also obvious that in some cases a sing e device of this invention may be employed in the support of a picture frame.
As many changes could be made in this construction without departing from the scope oi the following claims, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawing; shall be interpreted as illustrative only and not in a limiting sense.
threadedly mounted upon said rod. said sleeve being provided with a reduced portion, and a member adapted to be fastened to a picture frame, having an eye which encircles the reduced portion of said sleeve and is rotatively engaged therewith.
In testimony whereof I a'fiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
