lie it known that we, Max d'. @iraniani and `ilosnrn Sloriross, citizens of the ilinited ritates, residing` at Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore @ity and @tate `of Maryland, have invented new and useful improvements in Safety Attachments for Gras Stoves of which the following is a specification.
@ur present invention has reference to a safety appliance for lgas stoves, ranges and burners.
` Uur object is to produce a simple, cheap and effective means for locking the cocks that control the passage of gas to the several burners of the stove so that. none of the said cocks can be accidentally turned on, the locking means being of a nature, however', to permit of the cocks being independently turned to shut oil the iiow of gas.
er further object is to produce a` safety appliance for gas stovesor ranges in which all of the cocks controlling the passage of gas tothe separate burners are locked from turning to an open position, and wherein the` locking means is concealed so that the saine cannot be tampered with, wherein an `element must be actuated before any of the cocks can be turned on, and also wherein any of the cocks may be operated to close the gas passage controlled thereby.
llt is a still further `object to produce a safetyA device for gas stoves in which the casings for the cocks that control the gas passage to the several burners have either `integrally formed therewith or eflectively `secured thereon housings that have arranged therethrough spring influenced members which Vcarry on their outer ends cam elements n the nature of latches to engage the stop pins on the cores of the cocks to hold `the said cocks against turning` to permit of vit the flow of gas from the manifold to the several burners, all of said spring influenced members beingconnectedto a bar provided. with an operating element or handle preferably in the`nature of a yoke member that surrounds `the conductor pipe leadingl to the pilot;` the said bar may, if desired, be spring influenced to more effectively retain the catchmemhers in contacting en- ,sagement with the pins, the said catch members and pins beingn suitably encased or khoused to prevent accidental or mischievous `operation of any ofthe locking` means, it
being necessary to exert a pressure against the handle of the bar to move the said bar downwardly to bring-all of the latching elements out of `engagement with all of the pins on the cores of the cocks to permit of the turning of any of the cocks to allow a` flow of gas to any or to all of the burners, while any of saidcocks may be independently operated to close the gas passage.
A further object is to produce a means by the drawing which accompanies'and` which forms part of this specification.

`llt will'be seen, from an inspection of the accompanying drawings, that we have constructed the casinpjs for the Shanks of the slidable locks separate from the casings of the cocks and also that the housing or protector member for the cam heads of the locks are likewise separable members, but we wish the numeral lfdesignates th'e manifold" for any ordinary construction of gas burning,v stoves. The passage from the manifold to the several burners of thestove are controlled by cocks 2. v The cores of the cocks pass throi'ighkthevusual casings 3, the casings, at their upper portions being` notched in the usualmanner to receive therein the pins a which are let in the cores of the'cocls and which pins, contacting with. the yopposed ywalls of the notches limit the turning' of the cores and yfor sustaining the same in position. to openy or close the passages. Also connected to the maniiold there is the pipe 5 to whichv the pilot-,6 is secured. its is usual, the pilot is aty allk times lighted.

Around the said nipples and contacting with the fingers there are split rines 9, the ends of the said rings being` extended to provide parallel members, and through these members there arepassed binding` means, such as nuts aindbolts which compress the said split ringsvand hold the shells Vi' on the cock or `valve bodies'.
` Each shell 7 has its outer face centrally formed with a substantially rectangular' housing` -10 that receives therethrough the substantially` rectangular shank 11 of the lockingmembers 12. q Each locking member 12 has the upper end of its shank 11 provided with an arcuate cam head 13 that terminates in a straightshoulder 14- which is arranged directly `over the-shank 11. Each shank 11 has a reduced threaded extension 15 which passes through the open end of the housing 10 and which also passes through openings in a plate or bar 16. The threaded ends of the extensions 15 are engaged by nuts 17 which bind against the under face of the bar 16. 0f course,other means may be provided lfor securing the locks to the bars. VVThe cam heads 13 of the respective lockslQ have their upper angle yfaces in the path of COntactWithA the stop pins 4s on the cores of therespective cocks 2, and each of thecocks is provided with a suitable operatinghandleld, The reduced portions 15 of the sh anke 11 of the locks l12 are surrounded by coiled springs 19 which yexert a pressure between the bar 16 and the shoulder at the juncture of the shank 11 with its extension 15 and wliereliiy the headed ends l'i of the locks are forced into frictional contact with the stop pins 4.

The yoke 24 is really in the nature of an operating;` handle for the bar and may be either secured to the bar, as disclosed by the drawings, or cast therewith.
lVhen the cocks are moved to close the passages between the manifold and burners. the stop pins 4- and the cores of the cocks will be in contact with the shoulders` 14 ou the heads of the locks. The result is that none of the cocks can be turned, and to 'accomplish this, a downwardpressure can be exerted on the U-shaped member or handle 2&1 of tbe bar 1G. Such lnessure will nuove all of the locks downwardly to bring the shoulders la away from the pins l, so that any of the cocks ymay be inrhmendenily turned. Because of the upper angle forniation of thc arcuate heads 12B` of the locks the pins l never ride olif of the heads, and as a consequence any of the cocks may be turned to closed position independent of such turning of the remaining cocks.A The yoke-shaped handle of the bar is directly in Contact with the spring influenced valve 30 that admits a suflicient amount of gas to the pilot to retain the same lighterhand when Jthe said bar is moved downwardly.y the valve will be fully opened so that a larger llame will be given out from the pilot sullicient to light all of the burners.
