The invention has for an object to effect improvements in the manufacture ot flexible bracelet catches, particularly aiming` to enable the satisfactory product-ion of such an article from sheet nietal in an. inexpensive manner. Another important purpose is to provide an improved Yforni ot catch or clasp. adapted to be contained within one oit the very ,small units ordinarily employed in such bracelets, whereby all of the units ot the bracelet may be of uniliorn site.

The blank has extensions from each side on the base 16, one of whichis turned upwardly at right angles to the plate, forming` a check wall 19, which extends soinedist-ance above the pallet 17. The cap is lorined with an opening 29 of a size to engage slightly over the ed `re ol a circular gein set ony the pallet. horizontally slotted at its lower part to aline with the lower part of the opening 25, as indicated at 30`in Fig. l, and the opposite wall ot the cap is slightly shorter than the remaining, walls, in order to rest upon the extension 21, as clearly shown in Fig. l.
ln one unit there is incorporated a spring (lne wall ol the cap isk sok latch derice l-l. shown in 'Fign lorined trom il a blank' shown in Fig, 5. This blank cmnprises a. pla-in strap ot' resilient sheet metal bent to forni a nearly rectangular boxlike latch trame, which Yfunctions like a spring. Une end portion ot the blanl; terms a. short side o the latch tranie and the opposite end portion 3G ot the blank is outwardly at an oblique anglD so that the frame is thereby not quite rectangular, and is adapted to serve more eliiciently as a spring, as will be subsequently explained. In the lower edge ot the spring trarne at the short side i535, there is formed a slot 3G stopping short oit the adjacent'end oli` the spring, and forming a lock edge 3'?. On the next adjacent side oiI the latch trame, which is opposite the portion 36 and projected 'from its lower edge, there is vformed an operating` stem or head 13, before inentioned, which is bent outwardly to lie horizontally at right angles to the plane of this side ot the spring. lt is enlarged and indented on the outer end toenable the ready operation thereof by a linger-nail presented against the end of the stem. The wall portion of the pallet trame of the unit in which the spring is to be incorporated is suitably slotted as at 38 to permit insertion of the stein 13 therethrough, the body of the spring being adjusted to rest upon the plate y16 with the short side 35 extending across the opening and the portion 36 ot the spring bearing outwardly against the wall 15 or the pallet frame. The lower edge of the cap member is suitably slotted as at 38', in Fig. 1, to allow downward presentation of the cap around the stern 13 and to permit slight lateral movement oi the stem for operation as indicated in Fig. 3, by the dotted lines. It will be seen that the edge meniber 11 may be engaged with the bill 37 of the spring by simply pressing the pointed part of the bill into the slot 38 through the opening 25, and release may be effected by pressing the operating stein 13 inwardly as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 3.
lf desired, the slot for insertion ot the stem 18 through the wall 15 ot the pallet trame may be 'forined in all oit the units, as indicated in Fig. 5, its 'presence being no Latines detriment te the units when otherwise uti lined as indicated.
By having the opening extend into the base plate 16 a distarxcc7 a greater range ot' pivotal movement of the units ot the bracelet is permitted, as will be understood.
ln the manufacture oi the device, the wall 15 of the pallet traine is turned up. and t ie latch traine, previously formed, then put in place on the base 16, the remainder or the trarne 14 being formed then, and the parts 14 of the units linked together. Next the gems are laid on the trames 1dr-, and caps put in place, pressed into proper position relatively to the pallets, and the lower lateral edge portions of the caps set inwardly, to retain the parts, as set torth in my prior application.
What is claimed 1. A fastening comprising, a hollow member having a bill receiving slot at one side, a leaf spring catch device laid around the interior of the hollow member and expanding to lie closely against the inner sides ot' the hollow member throughout one end portion disposed across the slot for sliding movement, thereover, and having a bill engaging' part normally located before the said slot, an operating stern on the spring projected slidably from the hollow member for operation ot the catch device, and a second unit having a bill insertable through theslot to engage the catch. i

A terminal unit for iexible jewelry comprising a hollow rectangular member having' a. slot in one side, a spring bent to lerm an arm slidable adjacent the slot and a part thereon to project. over the slot non .ii/rally from one end, the spring having an end sprung outward 'to bear against one side or the body adjacent said end ot the slot tending .to hold the lock part .in locking position, and an operating stem on the spring projected slidably from the side of the body opposite the spring end last mentioned.
