Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
RUBEN WORSTER, OF CENTRAL FALLS, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO NATHAN N. KNIGHT, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOVE-DAMPERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 144,043, dntd October i8, 1673; application led August 23, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatI I, RUBEN WoRsTEE, of Central Falls, in the State of Rhode Island, have made certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Dampers; and I do hereby declare that the following speciiication, taken in connection with the drawing making a part of the same, is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
Figure vl is a Vview of my improved damper. Fig. 2 shows the same attached to the pipe.
The object of my invention is to produce a damper which shall more perfectly regulate the draft than those now in use, and at the same time permit the free escape of the gas; and consists in the devicehereinafter described.
In my invention I construct the damper, as shown in Figs. l and 2, with a rim, A, the outer circumference of which corresponds in diameter to the inside of the pipe, and attach to the said rim, by means of the rod B, a movable disk, C, for opening and closing the same. The rod B extends through the pipe, and has a thumb-piece upon one end. From the front of the rim A, and projecting from its interior circle, is a collar, D, of much less diameter than the pipe through which the current of air passes, being drawn thereby toward the center,
thus producing a strong draft.
In order to provide for the complete escape of the gas, I make two series of outlets there-A for, one for the inner circle and one for the outer. The escapes E for the inner circle are upon the inside of the collar I), and allow the escape of that portion of the gas which passes through the center of the pipe, While the escapes F, upon the outside of the collar D, permit the gas to escape which collects between the said collar and the pipe. The disk C is arrested in its movements, in opening and shutting, by the check-piece Gr, which may also be extended beyond the circumference of the rim A for the purpose of tightening the damper in case it should t too loosely in the pipe.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A brace-rimmed damper having two series of gas-escapes, E and F, upon the inner and outer circle respectively, substantially as and for the purposes specified.
2. The combination of the rim A, collar D, disk O, and check piece G, the whole constructed, arranged, and operating in the manner substantially as described.
RUBEN IVORSTER.
