Specification of Letters Patent.
' I WINDOW-FRAME.
Patented May 4, 1920.
Application filed March 23, 1918, Serial No. 224,109. Renewed October 25, 1919. Serial No. 333,375.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, HENRY P. DAVIS, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Window- Frames, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window frames and more particularly to frames for use in connection with the windows of vehicle tops.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a means for securing a panelun fixed relation to the window opening wh1ch comprises a plurality of mating frame sections that are adapted to be clamped together.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a frame of the class described which may be quickly and effectively ap plied and which will present a neat and attractive appearance when in position.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a frame which is sufliciently flexible to allow the same to conform to the surface of the glass in order to prevent breaking of the same when applying the panel to the window opening.
A still further object of the invention is the provision of a frame which is of simple construction, inexpensive to produce and which is thoroughly reliable and efficient in its purpose.
\Viththese and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts fully described and set forth in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1.
. Arias. 1.... i
Fig. 4 is a sectional view through the frame in its applied position.
Referring to the drawings, 10 and 11 designate the frame sections, the former be ing provided with the inwardly extending flanges 12 and 13. The section 11 is provided with the flanges 14 and'15, the former being provided with a plurality of resilient fastening members 16 which are preferably bent to form inclined portions 17 with which the flange 12 is adapted to contact when bringing the several frame sections into clamping position. The flange 15 is provided with a plurality of extensions 18 which are bent upwardly at a right angle to form rests 19 with which the edges of thepanel are adapted to contact. In the drawings two catches or extensions 18 are shown but it willbe understood that any number or width may be employed in accordance with the work to be accomplished.
While I have shown and described a simple and preferred form of carrying my invention into practice, I do not care'to be limited to the exact details therein exhibited but desire to reserve the right to make such -changes and alterations as necessarily fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is A window frame comprising a plurality of hollow sections, means on said sections for supporting a transparent panel, a flange on one of said sections, and an integral portion 011 the other section, said integral portion being arranged within the sections and provided with a flange disposed beside the first flange and. with resilient terminal fastenings adapted to engage with the first flange to advance the same against said second flange.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature. I
HENRY P. DAVIS.
