SAW CLEANING AND OILING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed Septemberll, 1919. Serial No. 323,157.
To all whom it may concern r Be it known that I, JOHNNY RAINS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boaz, in the county of Marshall and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw Cleaning and Olling Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to saw cleaning and oiling devices and more particularly to a saw oiling device and it has for its object the provision of a very simple and inexpensive structure by means of which a saw may be kept well oiled and thoroughly cleaned while in use.
A further object of the invention is to provide a structure of the character indicated having improved means for maintaining the desired flow of oil to the device throughout a very considerable length of time without the necessity of frequently replenishing the supply.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be set forth in the detailed description which now follows:
Figure 1 in the accompanying drawing is a view in side elevation of a saw oiling device with the-saw illustrated in section; and
Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view through the shank of one of the brushes.
Referring to the drawing 5 designates the saw, which may be an ordinary cross cut saw acting upon a log or other object to be sawed, indicated at 6. My improved saw oiling device comprises a hollow pipe-like structure bent to inverted U shape as indicated at 7 and having a plurality of nipple,- like outlets 8, in which the hollow shanks 9 of brushes 10 may be screwed. The oil flows to the yoke-like pipe structure through a pipe 11, and this pipe in turn extends downwardly from a cup-like structure 12 that is supported upon a frame 13, and this frame in turn is adapted to rest upon the log 6. The oil may be placed in a bottle 14 and the bottle may be inverted and its neck placed in the cup 12 so that, acting upon the bird fountain principle, a continuous supply of oil will be maintained in the cup 12. This oil will flow through the pipe 11 to the yoke 7 and keep the brushes 10 supplied with oil. These brushes contact with opposite sides of the saw 5 and maintain the saw in a well oiled condition during use. If desired additional tripod like supports 15 may be employed to support the structure 7 or pipe 11 may serve to support the same.
It is tobe understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth but that it includes within its purview whatever changes fairly come within either the terms or the spirit of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim is: y
A device of the character described comprising a yoke of inverted U shape and of tubular material having a plurality of inwardly spacing openings upon each leg thereof, oil distributing brushes projecting toward each other from said openings, a source of oil supply, a connection between the source of oil supply and the top of the yoke and supporting elements connected to the yoke and pointed for engagement with a log, said elements serving to maintain the yoke in position to straddle a saw with the brushes contacting with the opposite sides of the saw during the time that the log upon which the device is supported is being sawed.
