UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
WILLIAM MGGIE YOUNG, OF VICTORIA, BRITI$II COLUMBIA, CANADA.
GLASS-WASHER.
Application filed April 27, 1916.
enable the glasses to be rapidly washed in a sanitary manner by the continuous application of clean water.
The invention is particularly serviceable for washing glasses or tumblers in bars, icecream parlors, restaurants or other estab-' lishments where the same set of glasses are maintained in use by the public, and it consists essentially of a draining receptacle or sink having a tray around the top of the same, a central water distributing nozzle within the receptacle having orifices through which the water is discharged outwardly and means for directing jets of water on the exterior of the glass at the same time as on the interior, all as hereinafter more fully set forth and described in the accompanying specification and drawing.
Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of my improved glass washer.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Referring to the drawing, 1 represents the tray having a central opening 1, from which the draining receptacle or sink 2 extends downwardly. VVithin is arranged a vertical sprayer 3, and a horizontal sprayer 4 and a mounted rack 7, which is caused to rotate by the force of water from the horizontal sprayer impinging upon it and the glass A, as hereinafter described.
3 represents the vertical nozzle or spraying device. It is simply a hollow nozzle specially shaped and perforated at proper intervals with a plurality of fine orifices through which water is designed to be discharged in a spray against the interior of the tumbler A, which said tumbler is supported on the rack 7. This sprayer may also be equipped with any convenient form of spraying device which will cause a thin curtain of water to be directed around the bottom of the glass.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 20, 1920.
Serial l lo. 93,981.
4; represents the horizontal sprayer which consists of a pipe 5 bent into circular form to which are attached the sprayers or roses 6 set at proper intervals and formed with a plurality of fine orifices through which a spray is caused to impinge on all sides of the exterior of the glass. These roses are set at an angle, of)? center, Fig. 2, the object being that the force of the water discharging against the glass 'ill cause it to rotate.
7 represents the rack which is supported on the vertical sprayer The base of this rack is mounted on an ordinary ball-bearing race or otherwise, to permit of the rack rotating with a little friction as possible. in the edge of the rack at proper intervals are small projections or fins 8 which will par tially take the force of the water from the roses 6, thus causing a rapid rotation of the glass, the efiect of which is to provide that the water from the vertical sprayer 3 will more thoroughly wash the interior of the glass. The rack may be designed to permit of glasses of various sizes being washed.
\Vater, hot or cold as desired, is supplied to the Sprayers 3 and 4 by pipes 9 and 10 which are controlled by the valve 11, op-
erated by the handle 12 extending above the table 13.
The valve 11 may be of any suitable style such as an ordinary plug cock and may be fitted with a spring that w'll cause it to close the moment the handle 12 is released.
From the receptacle or sinlr 2 the aste water may pass to the drain 13.
If desired, the tray and sink or container may be made of glass so that the operation of the device may be readily observed and the sanitary nature thereof shown to the public.
As many changes could be made in the above construction and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention within the scope of the claim, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all mat ters contained in the accompanying specification and drawing shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
A device of the class described, comprising a receptacle, an annular water pipe in the receptacle having inwardly disposed water roses arranged slightly offset, a perthe glass and the rack to impinge on the 10 forated conical nozzle centrally located 1n fins as and for the purpose specified.
