Be it known that I, HANS HANSEN, a citi` zen of the United States, residing at New Rockford,-in the county of Eddy and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Match-*Receptacles, of which the. following is a speclfication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in match receptacles and more. particularly to a novelty device of this character and the primary object of the invention is to provide a novelty match lsafeV having an improved invisible locking means therefor.

A further object of the invention is to provide la case which may be used for other purposes than thatv for retaining matches and which when yturned in one direction is adapted to be opened and when disposed in an opposite direction may be closed and locked.

A still further object resides in providing a device which is simple and durable in construction, inexpensive to manufacture and one which will be very efficient and durable in operation.

`With these and other objects in view, myv` invention lconsists 1n the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, pointed outy in the` claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device;

In describing the invention, I shall refery to the drawing in which similar reference characters designate corresponding partsV throughout the several views and in which 1 indicates a housing or case of rectangular design, one end of which is open to slidably receive therein a drawer or the like 2. My invention primarily contemplates the provision of an improved 'locking means which is soarranged in connection;` with the drawer and the housing as to .be invisible.`

To this end, the inner end wall of they drawer 2 is provided with a channel 6 which extends completely therethrough and loosely disposed therein is a latch pin 7 the same being shorter than the height of said wall in which the channel is disposed.v Formed in the inner face of the bottom of the housing or casing 1 adjacent the closed end of the latter is a slot 8 which is designed to partially register with the channel 6 of the drawer when the latter is disposed to its innermost position in the housing.

When said drawer is disposed to its innermost position so that the channel 6 registers with the slot 8, and the device is turned to its upright position, the latch pin will move in the channel 6 so that a portion thereof will enter the slot or opening 8 in the bottom of the housing, thus retaining the drawer in its closed 0r retracted position.

It will be understood that when it is desired to dispose the drawer to its extended position, a complete inversion of the device is not necessary but it will be necessary to turn the device to such a degree asy will enable the latch pin to return to its initial position in the channel 6 when the tension of the s ring against the drawer is slightly releasedq by pressure on the outer end of the dra-wer.

From the foregoing description of the construction of my improved device, the operation thereof will be readily understood and it will be seen that I have provided a device' which may be used as a case for matches or other' articles which must necessarily be carried in a device of this character and it will further be seen that the improved locking means which are provided, provides a novelty therefor. It will also be seen that the device is simple and durable in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.

While I have particularly described the elements best adapted to perform' the functions set forth, it will be understood that various changes in form, proportions and in the minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the principles of the invention.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is l. A device of the class described comprising a body having one end thereof open,i the inner face of'one wall thereof being provided With a socket, a drawer slidably mounted in said body, the inner end thereof' being provided with a channel, spring means in connection with the inner .end of said drawer and the closed end ofthe body adapted to normally dispose said drawer to its extended position, means to limit the out-V ward movement of the drawer with respect to the body, and a latch pin loosely mounted in the aforesaid channel, said latch pin being of less length than the'rchannel and adapted for. engagement with the socket in the one Wall of the body when the latter is disposed to one position to lock` said drawer in its closed position therein, said latch pin being also adapted for disengagementwith the aforesaid socket when the body is disposed in an 'inverted position.
