Application filed February 10, 1919. Serial No. 276,105.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHAN A. J oHANsoN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Brooms, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in brooms and its prime object is to provide a broom having a novel form of holder wherein a plurality of fiber-holders are securely arranged, each fiber-holder carrying a quantity of fiber. The fibers are arranged in bunches which are tied or otherwise secured together and held in the holder. In the event that the fibers in any holder become worn more than those in any other holder the worn ones can be removed and replaced by others very readily.
VVith the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view through the broom illustrating its, construction.

Fig. 3 is a view of one of the fiber-holders showing the manner of securing the fibers therein in bunches.

Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
My improved broom comprises a main holder formed of side pieces 1, end pieces 2 and a cover piece 3; the end pieces 2 are secured to the side pieces by screws 2. To the cover piece a head I is secured by screws or similar fastening means, said head being adapted to receive the handle 5. Within the holder and extending longitudinally thereof I provide a plurality of fiber-holders 6 laid upon each other and secured in position and to the main holder by means of the screws 7 which extend entirely through the main holder connecting the side pieces thereof. Within each fiber-holder a plurality of fiberbunches are arranged, each fiber-bunch comprising a plurality offibers 9 each fiber being folded with its ends disposed well outside the fiber-holder. A cord 10 passes through each fiber-bunch and through perforations in the fiber-holder and the individual fibers are folded over said cord and depend therefrom, the cord 10 serving also to mark the fibers off in bunches. A cord 11 binds the fibers together inbunches and the several bunches to the fiber-holder, said cord 11 passing through the holder between the several fiber-bunches.
Should it be desired to remove a complete fiber-holder this may be accomplished by removing the several screws 7 and manually withdrawing the fiber-holder. Should one or more fibers in a bunch become worn it, or they, may be manually withdrawn from the cords 10, 11 and new fibers introduced.
The fiber-holder is a piece of cloth or like material folded over the folded ends of the fibers and only one edge of the folded fiberholder need be secured by the cords 10 or 11, the unsecured edge being held in place by the screws 7 when the fiber-holders are in the main holder.
