DANCING TOY.
Application filed November 5, 1919.
To all "whom it may concern.- I
Be it known that I, Joann .Vrsnrnrsm, a eitizen of Poland, residing at Bloomfield, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Dancing Toys, of which the following is a specification.
The primary object of the present inven tion resides in the provision of a figure toy the dancing type wherein the jointed leg sections of the figure are adapted to move upon their connections in response to a pull exerted upon cords connected therewith to create the impression of dancing.
A further object of the invention is to provide a figure toy having movable legs and a movable arm adapted to be shifted by pull cord devices with the movable arm carrying a stick similar to a violin bow and movable over a moo; violin supported by the other arm, and body portion of the figure.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel form, rou'ibination and arrangement of parts, herein fully described and shown in the accompanying drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate similar parts throughout the several views.
in the drawing,
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a toy constructed. in accordance with the present invention, the front wall of the platform section being partially broken away and shown in section to illustrate the passage of the operating cords through the box pl atform,
Fig. 2 is a side elevational view thereof with the box platform thereof partially broken away and shown in section,
Fig 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on line III-IH of Fig. 1, and
Figs. 4L and '5 are perspective views, respectively, of the arm and leg sections of the toy figure removed from the body portion.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing, the toy is illustrated as embodying a wall or plaque 6 of any preferred design having a hook receiving opening 7 provided in the upper end thereof by which the device may be suspended. The lower end of the wall 6 carries a box-shaped platform upon the front face thereof, the platform embodying an upper wall 8, end
Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 335,804.
, A dancing figure toy is mounted upon the plate 6 and comprises in detail a stud 11 hzwing the body portion 12 rigidly secured to the outer end thereof and in spaced rela tion to the wall 6. The body portion 12 of the figure has the left arm 13 formed integral therewith, being illustrated. as bent at the elbow with the outwardly projecting end 13 supporting an imitation violin 14: formed integral with the adjacent shoulder i i of said body 12. The head 15 is formed at the neck end of the body anda suitable design is formed upon the body to represent the style of clothing desired.
The movable parts of the body included jointed leg sections and a swinging arm, the arm being shown in Fig. 4i and represented by the reference character 16 as being bent at the elbow and carrying a stick 17 in the end portion thereof to represent a violin bow. The shoulder portion of the arm 16 is provided with a pivot receiving opening 1 18 having another opening 19 formed theretions 20 with the foot of each leg resting upon the upper wall 8 of the box platform. The arm 16 is pivotally mounted upon the shoulder of the body 12 by having one end of the cord 26 knotted and passed through an opening in the shoulder of said body portion and through the pivot opening 18 in the arm, the knotted end of the cord being in rear of the body portion 12 with the free end of the cord then inserted through the opening 19 in the arm and being directed downwardly through the opening 8 in the upper wall 8 of the box platform to assume the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Operating cords 27 have adjacent ends passed through the leg openings 24.- and knotted for retention therein with the other ends directed through the box platform opening 8 to the point 29 Where the three cords 26 and 27 merge into a single pull cord 30.
The Weight of the arm and stick carried thereby as Well as the legs .Will cause the same to assume a resting position at all times when the toy is out of use, the feet resting upon the upper Wall 8 of the box platform and the arm assuming the position with the stick carried thereby spaced from the violin 14. Considerable amusement may be obtained by operating the pull cord 80 to *ause a simultaneous movement of the legs and arm, the impression being created of a toy dancing synchronously with the playing of music. The speed of dancing and play ing may be readily controlled by the operation of the pull cord 30 or if desired, the fingers of the operator may be inserted in the lower open end of the box platform and each cord 26 and 27 individually operated.
While there is herein shown and described, What is believed to be the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed. The device may be constructed of any material desired, such as tin or card board, and a calendar may be carried by the front Wall 10 of the box platform.
What is claimed as new is 1. A toy oi the type described comprising a supporting Wall, a figure mounted thereon, a box platform arranged beneath said figure, an imitation violin supported in one arm of said figure, the other arm and legs of said figure being movably mounted and pull cord devices for operating the movable arm and legs.
