For certain purposes, it is dcsirableto secure the top niembe' 9 not only in its normal inclined position as shown in full lines in Figs. 1 and 2, but also to hold it in a horizontal position. At the same time, it is, of course, requisite that free access can be had. to the interior of the box body 5. To this end adjusting bars 10 are pivoted on the inner laces oi the ends of the box body, the metal members being in the form of ears 11 that are fixed to the said ends, said ears having pivots 12 engaged in the bars 10, as shown in detail in Fig. 4. l-lm'ing thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secore by Letters Patent, is

'l. A desk comprising a body having side walls with inclined upper edges, said body having; open upper sides, a top for the open upper sides that rests upon the side Walls, ledge on the body in rear of said top, an adjusting bar pivoted to the body, spaced swinging; links pivoted to the bar and to the top, said links permitting the top to rest upon the inclined edges of the slde Walls and abutted against the ledge and also in spaced relation thereto, and means for supporting the top in elevated position With respect to the body.

3. A desk comprising a body having side Walls with inclined upper edges, said body having an open upper side, an adjusting bar pivoted to the innersides of the Walls adjacent to the rear of the body, a top adapted to rest on the inclined edges of the Walls, links ivoted to the bar and to the top, said lin s permitting the top to rest upon the inclined edges in different positions, and a supporting standard pivoted to the body and adapted to be placed beneath the -front portion of the top to hold the same in elevated position.
