' TOY.
To all whom t may concern.' Y
Be it known .that I,'KATi-Inniiv`n B. 4FULD,
a citiren ofthe United `States,residing at" Baltimore, State of hilarylanchh'ave invented certain new and useful Improvements .inV
Toys,l of which the Vfollowing is a specification. f f` ,Y I Y This invention relates to toys and more particularly to that class of such devices known in thefart as figure toys, and has for its object theprovision ofan amusing and economical toy kadapted to represent va comical subject,such as a mule and'itsrid'er, mechanism being provided whereby to produce a series of ypositions ofthe device to effectively imitate the varied antics thereof.
With the foregoing and other vobjects in kview as will from time-to time hereinafter appear this invention consists in the peculiar combinationV and operationof thel relatedV parts of a toy as described 'in the annexed specification and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Referring to the accompanying drawing illustrating` an embodiment of the invention and in which likecharacters lof reference indicate like parts wherever used7 dotted lines being employed to indicate certain changes of position assumed bythe device,
the various `positions.assumed by the device,V and Figz is a detail section taken through the head of the animal, theY representation of the reins and the 'hand Vof the, rider. i
,il designates a platform provided with suitable devices 5 adaptedv to assist in the Y propulsion thereof, and a centralvjslot G. The platforml 4- iscarried by a bracket 7, supporting apair' of wheels 8 by means of anaxle V9, which is bent to form a crank arm 10 carrying by means of an eye 11 a U-shaped member 12 terminatingin arms 13, which carry aj rod 14 pivotally supporting the rear legs 15 of a fanciful ligure adapted to represent the profile of a mulevr or other animal having a .sharply inclinedl upper or back representing portion, having a tail portion V15 and fore legs 17 which are pivotally carried Vat 18 betweenblocks 19A vmounted upon the platform 4.
Suitably positioned lon the back lof the Figure 1 .is a side elevation partly broken Y l Specicat-in ofrLetters Patent Patented *Mah `16, 11920.` ..Atiatianeiefi August 21,191.9. serial No.3is,`s5e Y v4ure 20desi'gnedto represent a man or the A like and having aprojecting portion 271 representing .thenhands thereof through which passesa wire member y'22 representing reins, and also passing through'the head 23 ofthe mule figure and pivotally secured theretov at 24. Leg members '25 are eccentrically lpivoted on either side ofthe figure 20 at 26 head of the animal, as indicated in dotted' f lines in Fig. 2.
. The mechanism just described functions Y as follows during operation;
The device is caused to move incither a forwarder a rearward direction, imparting by means of the wheel S a rotary vmovement to the axle 9, causing aV reciprocating movep ment` of the U member12 carried bythe crank arm `10, such movement `causing the iig-ure` of the mule torock about its fore leg pivot 18 to assume a number of positions imitating the bucking thereof. The yligure 20 being free to move along the back Y of the mule figure and pivotally securedto the wire 22 will assume the various positions cfa rider of such an animal7 somewhat` exaggerated in order to provide an amusing device, the legs 25 being-free to move about l thepivot 26 and being over-balanced by the enlargement v27 will assume various v'posi-*p tions durinnf the ieciprocation and operation of the device.r Y
VI realize that considerable variation is possible in the details of construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I therefore do Vnot intend to limit myself to the specific form shownand described.
Y I claim: n
1. In a toy, in combinatioina wheel supported platform, a `figure having legs of unequal length, the longer leg thereof being pivotally connected to said platform, means connecting the shorter leg of said figure with thewheel carrying axle to cause the figure toV rock on its pivot connection-with the platyform as` said axle revolves, and a second figure pivotally mounted on said rst named yiio ligui'eand adapted to be moved by the same in the rocking movements thereof.'
In a toy, in Combination,l a. Wheellsupported platformt figure having' legs of unequal length, the longer leg thereof being pvotally connected to said platform, means connecting the shorter legoil said: figure with the Wheel carrying axle, to cause the figure Y.
to rock on its pivot connection with the platorm as said axle revolves,V and a second figure having enlarged legv members eccentreally pvot-eds tl'iereon,` said second figure being pvotally mountedv onY said firstv named' fig-nre whereby said last named iigurefwvill 'be bodily moved by the rocking movements l5 off said first named'- figure and tsenlarged leg members be caused to swing on their pvotal'eonneetion with the'gure to which theyV are attached.
, Intestmony whereof I aIix in presence of tvvo Witnesses.
