PIPE-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 2, 1920.
Application filed June 17, 1919. Serial No. 304,874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LIDA FRANKLIN BREWER, a citizen of the United States, re siding at Toms Creek, in the county of Wise and State of Virginia, have invented. new and useful Improvements in Pipe-Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pipe hangers and comprehends the construction which can be conveniently and quickly attached to both the pipe, and the wall or other support from which the pipe is to be suspended.
Most specifically stated, the invention embodies a substantially U-shaped hanger adapted to be secured to the wall or support, and has associated therewith a sectional band adapted to be clamped about the pipe to be supported.
In the drawing forming part of this specification, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the manner of supporting the pipe in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hanger.
The device forming the subject matter of my invention essentially embodies a substantially U-shaped hanger 10 which may be constructed from any suitable material and of any size without departing from the spirit of the invention. The spaced parallel limbs 11 of the hanger have their corresponding free ends bent outwardly to provide apertured lugs 12 through which suitable fastening elements pass for the purpose of securing the hanger to the wall or other support from which the pipe is to be suspended.
Fixed to the cross piece of the hanger is the central portion 13 of a sectional band which is adapted to be clamped about the pipe to be supported. Connected to the opposite end of the central portion 13 of the band are the curved sections 14 and 15 respectively, each terminating to provide an apertured ear 16 as shown. The ears 16 are of course adapted to be arranged in parallel relation when the sections 14 and 15 are disposed about the pipe, and suitable fastening elements 18 are passed through the ear 16 to hold the sections 14 and 15 of the band in gripping relation. Manifestly, the sections 14 and 15 respectively of the band can be swung away from each other to rest against the parallel limbs 11 of the hanger, to facilitate the association of'the band to the pipe to be supported. The con struction of the hanger as a whole is such that it can be conveniently handled in both attaching the hanger proper to the wall and the sectional band to the pipe.
While I have shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment of the invention, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to the exact construction and arrangement disclosed, and
that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
What I claim is A device of the class described comprising a substantially U-shaped member, a sectional band, said sections being pivotally mounted upon the cross piece of said member, and means for holding said sections in gripping relation.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
LIDA FRANKLIN BREWER.
