Description

1.P.MAxwELL Improvement in Hose-Bridges.
No. 133,045. 1 Patented 1110114291872.
FLgZ
UNITED STATES PATENT Grrron.
ISAAC P. MAXWELL, OF BALTIMORE MARYLAND, ASSIGNOR T0 HIMSELF AND WILLIAM R. MILLER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN HGSE-BRIDGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 133,045, dated November 12, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC I. MAxwnLL, ot' Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented a new and Improved Portable Rail-Track and Hose-Froltector, of which the following is a specification:
The invention consists in joining a hosejumper in readily-detachable sections, as hereinafter described.
In the drawing, Figure l is a top view; Fig. 2 is a vertical section through line :c x, Fig. l; and Fig. 3 is a cross-section .through line y y, Fig. 2.
A Arepresent two rails of a detachable and auxiliary rail-track which are arc-shaped on the upper side B and horizontal on the lower side C. Each of these sides has two corresponding faces, b b and c c. Near the middle of each of these rails they are connected by boards or plates D D, which slide obliquely thereinto, thus forming a concavity, d, over the road, andthey are made readily removable. Midway of the rails A, and on the under side C, are formed curved concavities e c, which align with and open into the concavity d made by plates D. F F are horizontal and lateral anges,on' outside of rails, perforated perpendicularly to receive the pins G.
The application is as follows: As soon as a hose is thrown across the street-track this auxiliary track is aflixed to it so as to bring the horizontal faces b b within and those b b on the said track, while the concavities d c receive the hose without pressing thereupon. If, upon declivities, there is any danger of this auxiliary track being pushed forward by the ear then the pins G are passed through the perforated flanges and driven into the road.
By making the plates D easily detachable this auxiliary track can be taken conveniently apart and packed in a small compass so as to K be ca-rried under the seats of a car, from whence it may be quickly applied to and withdrawn from the road.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The plates D D sliding` obliquely into rails A A and thus rendered readily removable, as described, for the purpose of enabling the hosejuniper to be conveniently packed away under the sea-t of car, and in a small compass.
To the above specification of my invention Ihave signed my hand this 5th day of August, A. D. 187 2.
ISAAC P. MAXWELL.
