FREDERICK HEYL, ornnw'roak, N. Y. 'i
'To all whom t concern: vBe it known that I, FREDERICK HEYL, a.
' citizen of the United States, Vand residi-n at of. pin.
vof wood and consistsof t A 5 terminating in fffli's structed plane and vfrom constant wear become so' line'. The outer sides of New York city, New York county, and ew vYork State, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inl Clothespins, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates toclothes pins and its object is to provide means inthe well known wooden fork pin'- consisting of grooves or 'serrations to receive the rope or wire and more firmly grip the clothesto be secured thereto. These and other details and objects of the invention are more fully described in Athe follow-ing specification, set forthinlthe appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side view of the improved 4clothes pin.
.Fig. 2 isa view at a right angle to the above. Fig. 3 is a side view of a modified forni shows another modificati n,
in further m iied.
` The, ordinary for pin as heretofore conhas' two 'jaws whose inside faces are lsmooth that they fail to attain their object and work loose from the rope and-,clothes gradualy, orpwhen the wind causes anexcessive apping of the garments. 'p Various means have been attempted, and` wire and metal pins havegbeen-'adoptedto ine secure a firmer grip enl the clothes and cost are also undesirable features.
The present invention is head 6v of ordinary construction, theshank spreading toward their lower ends lto afford ease in securing the in on the'iabric and the jaws conform 1 `with #the 'original shape of the 'blank pin vided with a series o grooves 8 of var ousI dimensions and increasing in size or ar tosome force will.

i it to the various sizes of ropes, the upper gr'ooves fitting a small rope while larger ropes are received by vlarger grooves."r
The grooves 8 are s -bstanltially arcs of circles and may be formed by boring holes in the blank pin beforelth'e division of the jaws is stamped out. i
` It is very evident that when the jaws are sprung over a rope so that the grooves partlyv lit around thesame it will be very difiicult to release the rope or garments on account of greater bearing surfacebeing aiordedand be required' topull the pin 10080. j In rthe modified form show-n in Fi' 3 the rooves'9. do not face each other andl corre= spond but each groove faces the opposite fiat surface of the other jaw so that while thegroovets around 'one sideof tlfe' rope the other side of the' latter ig pressed upon y the fiat side ofthe other jaw insuringthe 'l rmanent location of the pin ifznecessary.'
he grooves 9may also be lail r as they descend-toward the lower end o 'the lineto provide for -the locationof the latter cna ropeofanysize..
The ooves 8 and 9 neednot bearcsof circles in shape butfwhenvfoiind, desirable may be aular notches of .any d ee to. forni a w ge 'shape 'move-to tig ten the grip ofthe on the ropegor'clothes and -may correspond in location on the jaws or.
