To all whomz't may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED L. COBB, a citizen of the United States, residing at Estes Park, in the county of Larimer and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Truss, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has reference to surgery, and more particularly to trusses, employed 01;1 supporting ruptured portions of the The primary object of the invention is to provide a truss capable of unlimited adj ustment, in various directions.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, having an adjustable means for securing a connecting strap to the truss pads, forming a part of the truss.
A still further object of the invention is to provide wire supporting means for the truss pads, which wire possesses flexible qualities to permit the same to be bent to various angles, thereby accomplishing the adjusting result without the use of adjusting screws.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that various changes in the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 illustrates a front elevational fragmentary view of a truss constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 illustrates a rear view of a modified form of a circular truss pad constructed in accordance with the present invention, and
Fig. 3 illustrates a side elevational view of the same.
Referring to'the drawing in detail, reference character 5 designates the body ofthe truss formed of any suitable metal capable of being flexed or bent to various angles.
Forming continuations of the body 5, are the lateral arms 6 whi-h as shown, are disposed toward each other, and support the truss pads 8 and 9, adja ent the ends thereof.
Each of the truss pads 8 and 9 includes a substantially circular body 10 formed preferably of wood, and to which is secured the metallic circular plate 11 apertured as at 12 to receive the securing screws 13, whereby the plate 11 is secured to the body 10.
A pair of cleat members 14 and 15 are secured to each of the circular plates 11, and accommodate portions of the arms 6 for providing a connection between the arms 6 and the truss pads 8 and 9. Disposed between the cleat members 14 and 15 of each-pair is a bracket member 16, which includes a length of metal bent intermediate its extremities to provide a loop portion adapted to embrace a portion of the arm of the body of the truss, associated therewith, the free ends thereofbeing connected together by means of the rivets 17 passing through registering openings formed in the free ends of the bracket members 16 and the adjustable head 18, to be hereinafter more fully described.
Each of these heads includes a circular portion 19, which engages the free ends of the bracket members, the opposite portion of each of the circular heads including a buckle member 20, which buckle members accommodate the ends of the strap member 21, as at 22, for securing the pads 8 and 9 against lateral displacement, after the same have been properly positioned on the body of the user.
Bracket members 23, which also include loop portions, and apertured end portions, embrace portions of the arm 6, and are connected by the strap member 24:, thereby supporting the arms 6, in proper adjusted relation with each other, the collar members 24 adapted to prevent movement of the members 23 on the bars 5 and 6.
While I have only shown and described the forward ends of the body of the truss, it is not believed necessary to show or describe the rear ends of the truss, since the front'and rear ends are identical, the central portions of the body of the truss are however curved to conform to the curvature of the hips, to properly fit over the body of the user.
In the modified form of the pads, as shown by Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing, the bracket 25 is shown as having a curved central portion 26 embracing one of the arms 6, and an end portion 26 thereof engaging the rear of the pad and having means for permitting the securing of the bracket to the pad. associated therewith, as at 17'.

It might be further stated that the constructions disclosed by Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing, are especially designed to be employed in connection with a single truss or a truss used for a single rupture.
Having thus described the invention, What is claimed is 1. In a device of the kind described, a body portion including spaced arms, pads positioned on the lower end of each of the arms, spaced cleats positioned on one side of each of the pads, a bracket member disposed between the cleats, said cleats adapted to embrace a portion of each arm, said bracket members adapted to embrace the portions of the arms between the cleats, each supported on eac of said bracket members having a head formed thereon, and a hook member having pivotal connection with the head for securing an adjusting strap to the pads.
2. In a device of the kind described, a body portion including spaced arms, a pad supported adjacent the lower end of each arm, cleats embracing a portion of each arm, a bracket member having a curved central portion embracing the arms between the cleats, a hook member having pivotal con nection with each of the bracket members, an adjusting stra having a loop member end thereof, said loop members adapted to engage over the hook members for holding the arms in proper relation with each other.
