Be it lmown that it, w: Morznn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Merli den, in the county or" New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Auxiliary Oiling Systems for Ford Cars; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to

My invention relates to an improved auxiliary oiling system particularly adapted for Ford cars, the object being to provide simpie and convenient means for carrying reserve oil without raising the oil level in the engine.
With these ends in view, my invention consists in an auxiliary oiling system, having certain details of construction as will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the In carrying out my invention, I employ a reservoir 6 having a filling nipple 7 and vented cap 8, the reservoir being adaptedto receive an amount of oil far in excess of the oil receptacles of Ford cars.' Straps 9 embracing the' ends of the reservoir are provided for securing the same in place. Upon the under side of the reservoir I locate a separate feed-chamber 10 inone side of which I mount a glass 11 throughwhich the oil in the chamber may be seen, the feedchamber being of much less capacity than the reservoir and ada ted to contain say a pint or a quart of oil or other unit of measurement. Depending from the feed-chainher is a valve-casing 12 connected by a lead pipe 13 with the bottom of the rrvoir.

The said casing receives an ordinary twoway valve 14 provided at its projecting outer end with an operating-handle 15 and having its projecting inner end encircled by a spring 16 by means of which it is constantly maintained upon its seat in the ordinary manner. The said valve is formed with a radial passage 17 and a corresponding radial passage 18 located at a right angle thereto as clearly, shown in Figs. 3 and 4. A port 19 leads from the bottom of the chamber: 10 through the valve-casing, while a corresponding port 20 located at a right angle to the port 19, is
formed in the casing and connected-with a feed-pipe 21 whichleads to the so called breather pipe of the engine.
When the valve is in its open position, as shown in Fig. 3, oil in the reservoir feeds by gravity through the leadpipe 13 and through the passages 17, 18 and 19 into the feed chamber 10 which is in this way filled by gravity. Vi /hen the chamber has been filled in this manner, the handle 15 is thrown into its closed position as shown in Fig. 4 by broken lines, whereby all communication between the reservoir and chamber is shut 011", and whereby the passages 19, 17, 18 and 20 are connected to permit the oil in the chamber to feed into'the feed-pipe 21. In this manner the oil in the reservoir is fractionally, so to speak, transferred therefrom into the feed chamber from which'it is fed to the engine without, however, drawing on the main body of oil in the reservoir during the feeding operation. When the oil in the chamber has been fed therefrom to the engine, the handle 15 is thrown into its open position and allowed to remain there until the chamber has been refilled from the reservoir. The handle is left in its open position. until it becomes necessary to feed more,.oil into the engine when the handle is thrown into its closed position to emptythe feed chamber into the engine.
