Description

J. GRAUER.
DIE HOLDER. H
APPLICATION FILED NOV- 6- I9.
Patented Jan. 20,1920.
IN [/5 IV TOR ,4 TTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH GRAUER, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
. DIE-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent. f Patented Jan. 20, 1920.
Application filed November 6, 1917. Serial No. 200,490.
bars or other work which are located in in-' convenient situations for general die work, as for instance, projections from walls which itis desired to thread or on which it is desired to do other die work.
Referring to the drawings.
Figure 1 is a cross section of my die holder with accompanying die and guide shown in the operation ofthreading a pipe protruding from an inlet box;
Fig. 2 is an end view of my device looking at the same from the end adjacent the wall;
Fig. 3 is a side view of Fig. 2; Fig. 4 is an end view showing the die i position, the guide being removed therefrom;
Fig. 5 is an inner view of the guide and means for holding the same on to the die holder;
Fig. 6 is a side view of my die holder arranged at' right-angles to the view shown in Fig. 3. I
Referring now in? detail to the drawings, 1 represents the hdusing of the die holder provided with holes 2 adapted to permit the insertion therethrough of the bar or lever 13 for leverage purposes A die 3 is inserted in the end of said housing between the jaws 4-4 thereof and which are preferably made integral with said housing and are held in position therein by the set screws 5-5.
Fitted over the said diewhen in position isa. guide holder 6 having the projections 7 which extend 'over the sides of the die 3. These projections 7 are provided with the set screws 8 which are adapted to engage with the adjacent sides of the die 3 to those engaging the set screws 5. In this guide holder is provided a guide 9, annular in shape and being provided with a shoulder 10 which engages the shoulder 11 of the guide holder. 7
In the drawings I have shown my die holder being used in conjunction with a diein threading aconduit 12 in an outlet box. The die 3 is .inserted in the housing as shown and held rigidly in place by the set screws 5. The guide 10 is held in place by the jaws 7 of theguide holder 6 and.
rigidly fastened by the set screws 8. The die is in position on the-conduit, the guide 10 serving to hold the die in. proper alinement on the conduit. The die holder and its accompanying die are then turned by means of the lever 13 until the conduit is threaded the desired extent. In the event that the projecting end of the conduit is very short or for any other reason it is desired to thread the conduit back to the bottom of the outlet box or against the wall, the guide 10,
may be removed from the holder by un screwing the set screws 8 and removing the guide and guide holder therefrom. This operation leaves the die in such position as to make it possible to screw the same over the conduit or work being operated upon back to the bottom of the outlet box or back to the wall in case. the projection being operated on is from a .wall.
It is .understood that in this specification and accompanying drawings, I have ,shown what I believe to be the best embodiment of my invention. I do not desire to be limited, however, to the form shown, but what I desire to secure by these Letters Patent is set forth in the appended claims.
1. In a die holder, a housing provided with a recess at one end and leverage means at the other, a die adapted to be securely held in said recess, a guide, a guide holder provided with means for holding said guide, said guide holder being also provided with jaws adapted to fit over said die and means for securing the said guide holder and accompanying guide in position over the said die.
2. In a die holder, a housing provided with a recess at one end and with leverage means at the'other, said recess being formed by extending jaws. at two opposite sides jacent sides thereof to the ositions of the thereof, a guide having a recess formed by jaws of the die holder, an means for setwo jaws at two opposite sides thereof, a die curing said guide to said die.
adapted to be fitted into thesaid recess of JOSEPH GRAUER. said housing and means for securing the \Vitnesses:
same therein, and said guide bein adapted JACOB MAKAY,
by its jaws to fit oven the said ie at ad- HANNAH DONNELLAN.
