Description

- described and pointed out in theclaims.I
' followingis a specification.
To all 'whom t may camera.'
UNITED sTATEs PATENT oE-EICE.)
GEORGE W. LEWIS, or GmNNELL, Iowa;
ASSIGNOR T0 LOVLL MANUFACTURING COMPANY, 0F ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION F P ENNSYLVANIA.
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. LEWIS, a citizen of the .United States, residing at Grinnell', in the county of Poweshlek and- State of Iowa, have invented. new and useful -Improvementsin Wringers, of .which the This invention relates to wringers and consists in certain .improvements in the. construction thereof as will be hereinafter fully More particularly the invention relates to. safety release devicesfor, rellevlng the pressure on power rolls.'
The invention is illustrated in the accom-- panying-drawings as follows Figure 1 shows a s ide elevation of the wringerf V y Fi'g. 2 an end elevation of the wringer. Fig. 3 a central verticalsectionof a portion of the'wringer. Fig. 4 a section'on the line 4--4 in Fig. 1. 1-1 mark the Stiles of the wringer frame, 2, the upper roll,3' thev lower roll,- 4- cross boards, and 5 lmovable bearings ofv the upper bearings being slidingly mounted in the slots 6in the Stiles. y j
Springs 7 are arranged in the slots and rest on the bearings 5. -A washer plate 8v rests on the top of the -spring and adjust-- ing or pressure 'screws 9. operate againstthe' plates 8." The screws cross bar 10. The cross bar is-hinged at its'outer ends to a hinge plate 12, the hinge plate having' across, plate 12a bracing the tops-of the stilesv and outwardly' extending ears 12btl`1rough which. tends. The bar 10 extends across the hingepin 13 ex the slot 6A and between'theears12" so thatthe pivots of the hinges-are somewhat outside ofthe springs 7. The cross .rends and has the overlapping portions 11.
A catch lever -14 is plvotally mounted by means cfa pin w15 on'the top part of the ,lapped portion 11 of the cross hanI This is provided with la catch .notch 16 -which is i vadapted toengage apin 17 on thelower part of the lapped portion 11 of the com.- panion part of the bar. It will be readily seen that when bothportions are inthe position shownin Fig. 1 andlthe catch lever bar are forced into wringer rolls 9 extend 'through' a vexerting pressure on the justa'ble means normally holding the parts is separated intermediate its parts against separation.
Specification of Letters :PatentA Patent'd Jan, 13, 1920, Appli-cation iled'Septeniber 21,1916. Serial No. 151,379. l l
in position 4on thepin lthat thepressure; of the .springs 7 is communicated vto the frame through lthe hinge- When, however,
the catchlG is released, the parts of the bar 10 swing'upwardly as' shown in dash lines,
thus releasing-,the springs andinnmediatelysome initial compression as the parts of the v their .normal position 'as showniln Fig. 1. l A
What I claim asv new is :-v
1. I n a wringer, the combination of.
wringer rolls; a spring exerting pressure on the rolls; a frame in which the rollsare mounted comprisingv a screw exerting pressure on the spring a cross bar in which the screw is mounted, said cross bar being pivotally secured; at .its ends to the lframe and f composed of parts separable intermediate the en'dsgof the bar to release the springs; and detachable means normally l holding the parts against separation.
' 2. In*A a wringer, the combination -of a spring at each end exerting pressure l on the rolls; a frame in whichthe rol-ls are mounted-5 a cross bar pivotally se cured atits ends'to the frame andopposed so I 'by'. overlapping .parts separable alongl its overlapping'portlon; screws in the cross bar springs; and ad- 'of the cross bar against separation.
the rolls; a frame in which the frolls are mounted comprising a screw exertingpres. sure onthesprlmg; a cross barl in whlch the screw is mounted, said 'cross-bar being engaged bythe frame at its ends and com'- posed of overlapping parts separable along its overlapping portion torelease the spring, l
one part engaging the frame atV one, side of the wringer andthe other part'engaging the frame at the 'opposite .side of the wringer, 'l I and detachable means normally holding the In testimony whereof lmy hand. GEORGE W. LEWIS.`
