Description
M. JETLUND. PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINTING MASK.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 24,19l9.`
Patented Deo. 30, 1919.
MATHIAS JETLUND, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
IPIIOTOGRAPI-IIC-PRINTING MASK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Deo. 30, 1919.
Application filed July 24, 1919. Serial No. 313,130.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MATHTAS JETLUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King `and State of Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Photographic- Printing Masks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and eXact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to photographic printing masks, and particularly to a form of mask and frame for holding negatives in a iiXed position while a print is taken therefrom, and particularly while a card of some uniform size is being printed, and for holding the card in a predetermined position while the picture is being produced, from the negative on the face of the card.
The objects of the invention are to provide means for holding a sensitized card in a determined position over a photographic negative, also held in a fixed position, relatively with each other so that a picture may be produced on the face of the card in the position desired by the operator and so guard against the common trouble found in printing pictures on cards, whereby the margins on the card are uneven, or slanting, or the picture in a relative position on the card, when there printed, other than as desired by the printer or operator.
I have shown my invention by drawings herewith, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of the device with the negative holder open.
Fig. 2 represents a negative.
Fig. 3 shows a postal or other card to be printed.
Fig. 4; is a sectional view of the device as in use.
As is well known, difficulty is found in printing cards from photographic films and i negatives, because of the moving of the film or card after they have been placed in the printing frame and before the frame is closed tightly to prevent such motion, thus when the card is removed from the negative the picture is not in the position desired, and the card shows margins of uneven widths, or slants, or part of the view may be cut ofi' or unseen.
In my invention I have provided frame ably of thin paper or other pliant material,
and fasten one end of frame D to the under side of the smaller frame B. In one end of the frame A I cut out a suitable notch C to permit the finger nail tip of operator o be inserted. I use the apparatus as folows:
When the negative is to be used for printing I place the same beneath the two frames A and B or in any desired position, which I determine by holding the frame and film against the light for inspection, then I close down the third frame or back holder D, which binds the negative in its place; then I drop into recess of the first frame A the postal or other card to be printed, and place the apparatus in any common exposure frame and bind it down with the common means, but by the use of my apparatus the picture film and card will not get displaced as the hands are removed and while fastening the printing frame before exposing the same to the light for printing.
What I desire to claim is:
1. A photographic printing device having a thin front frame with an inner rabbeted edge to receive a sensitized sheet or card to be photographically printed, and a clamping frame on the back of the frontframe to hold an inserted negative against the back of the front frame for the purpose of preventing the relative shifting of the sensitized surface and the negative before they are effectually clamped in the usual printing frame.
2. A photographic printing device having a thin front frame with an inner rabbeted edge to receive a sensitized sheet or card to be photographically printed, and a .clamping frame on Vthe back of Vthe front frame to hold an inserted negative against the back y of the front frame for the purpose of preventing the relative 'shifting of the sensitized surface and the'negative before they are effectually clamped in the usual printing frame; the Vfront frame havingY a finger notch to one side of its rahbeted edge for the entrance of the finger tip in removing a print.
3. In a device for holding L photographie negative and a sensitized surface to beprinted therefrom, the front frame having a rabbeted edge around its opening into which ra-bbet the sensitized sheet may be inserted,
the innermost edge of the' front frame forining a. mat; and a. ieXible frame attached at 10 one end to the hack of the front frame and between which frames a negative may be removably inserted and clamped in 'desired position.
e In testimony Whereoiz I {LHX my signature. 15
MATHIAS JETLUND.
