Description
'V. J. LUONGOI ATTACHMENT FOR DENTAL ENGINES.-
. APPLKCATION FILED FEB- IZ; 1919- 1,325,447.
Patented Dec. 16,1919.
INVENTOR li'ncent all: aon ya A TTORNE Y5 VINCENT JAMES LUONGO, OE BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
ATTACHMENT FOR DENTAL ENGINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 16, 1919.
Application filed February 12, 1919. Serial No. 276,628.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VINCENT J. LUONGO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Dental Engines; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an attachment for dental engines, and more particularly to a wetting and wiping device for cooperation with the conventional grinding disk.
The primary objects of the invention are to provide a device of the character described which is extremely simple in construction, and which may be quickly and readily attached or detached with respect to the standard type of dental engine.
To the accomplishment of the recited objects, the preferred embodiment of my invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and embraced within the scope of the appended claims.
In said drawings,
Figure l is a perspective view of the attachment embodying my invention, and
Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the device shown in position on a dental engine the latter being illustrated in dotted lines for the sake of clarity.
Referring more specifically to the drawings, 1 denotes a support which is in the form of a main clip 2 and an auxiliary clip 3, the former being adapted to engage the hub 4: surrounding the shaft 5 of a dental engine 6, while the latter engages the depending grease cup 7. The tools clips constituting the support are preferably formed of one integral piece, as shown, although they may be constructed differently, if desired, just so long as they combine to prevent movement of the support vertically or horizontally.
Attached to the upper and lower portions of the main clip 2 and projecting laterally therefrom is a pair of yieldable arms 8 having flanged arcuate extremities 9 designed to embrace a small cup, as 10, which may contain any suitable absorbent material or substance, as a sponge, 11. If desired, a
small coil spring 12 may be interposed between the armsS to increase the frictional contact of the extremities 9 with respect to the cup 10.
In practice, the device is attached to the hub 4 and grease cup 7 with the sponge 11 engaging the friction disk 13 which relative position may be readily secured by manipulating the cup 10 between the extremities 9. Upon starting the dental engine 6, the disk 13' will be rotated and supplied with suflicient water by the sponge 11 to facilitate the grinding or polishing of teeth. At the same time, the tendency of the disk to become coated with abrasive particles of grit is eliminated by reason of the constant contact of the disk with the moistened sponge. Whenever it is desired to adjust the position of the sponge 11, this may be readily accomplished by an appropriate change'of position of the cup 10. In fact, the position of the cup may be so altered as to entirely free theksponge from coming in contact with the dis 7 Having thus described this invention, I claim:
1. In a wetting and wiping device for grinding and polishing wheels, a supporting member adapted to engage the hub or bearing block of a motor, an auxiliary clip formed upon the supporting member and adapted to embrace a portion of the motor to secure a rigid connection, flexible arms secured to the supporting member and a container adjustably held between the outer extremities of the flexible arms.
2. In a wetting and wiping attachment for grinding and polishing wheels, a supporting and attaching member adapted to engage over the hub or bearing block of a motor, auxiliary attaching arms formed upon the supporting and attaching member and adapted to afford a means for attachment to a vertical member or part of the motor, a container suitably attached to the supporting and attaching member and arranged in alinement with a grinding Wheel attached to the motor and means for adjusting the position of the container relatively 5 to the grinding Wheel.
3. The combination with a dental engine having a shaft, a hub for said shaft provided with a projection, a support engaging said hub and said projection, a pair of arms extending laterally from said support, and 10 a container in place between the free ends of said arms.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
VINCENT JAMES LUONGO.
