To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ANTONIO Anioo, a sub ject of the King ofltaly, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Looms, of which the following is a specification.
One object of my invention is to construct a loom in such manner that it will operate to simultaneously throw two shuttles in such manner as to deliver their weft of filling yarn at opposite sides of a. stuifer warp and wlthin the same shed of the bmder warp thereby pror with the use of my improved loom, double face fabrics can be produced by a simple operation of the binder warps, necessitating no different arrangement of binder warp and stufier warp than is usually provided in a loom for weaving a single face fabric.
A further object is to makemy improved loom of a simple construction and so that it can be operated to quickly produce fabrics of the above type.
These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a loom constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is an enlarged section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, showing the lay in its rear position with the shuttles in flight across the loom,
Fig. 3 is a section substantially similar to that of Fig. 2 with the lay beating up the weft, and
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary section taken transversely through the weft of a fabric capable of being woven upon my improved loom.
Referring to the drawings, 5 represents the frame of my improved loom having the lay 6 pivotally connected thereto at 7 and 8 Specification of Letters latent.

represents standards at the opposite sides of the frame; said standards being of any of the usual constructions and supporting a shaft 9 which. is movable in the usual manner (not illustrated) for actuating the heddles 10. As illustrated there are two binder warps 11 and 12 and a lease of stutter warp 13; the heddles 10 being operative, due to the change of the direction of rotation of the shaft 9, to alternately raise and lower binding warps l1 and 12 in order to change the shed of the binder warps in the usual manner of weaving. The lay 6 is moved in the usual manner by a rod 1 connected to a rotatable crank 15.
The lay 6 at opposite ends is provided with two shuttle boxes 16 and 17, the shuttle boxes 16 being mounted above the shuttle boxes 17, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Picker sticks '18 are operative in the usual manner and are operative as illustratedto simultaneously eject both shuttles from the boxes 16 and 17 on one side of the loom to the boxes on the other side.
The lay 6 is provided with the usual reed 19 which consists of reed bars spaced apart to permit the ends of warp to be inserted therebetween in the usual manner. The top of the rail 20 of the lay 6 provides a race for the lower shuttle 21. A second race is produced above the rail 20, said second race being formed by the angular ends 22 of the pins 23 which are secured in a rail 24. The rail 24 is supported by brackets 25'mounted on a pivoted shaft 26. The ends 27 of the angular portions 22 of the pins 23 are adapted to be moved into close proximity to the reed bars 19, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Thus the upper surfaces of the portions 22 of the pins 23 provide a race for the upper shuttle 28 when the lay is in its rearward position as shown in Fig. 2. The construction is such that the upper binder warp will be. positioned above the path of the'shuttle 28, and the lower binder warp will rest upon the top of the rail 20 in the usual manner so as to be below the path of the shuttle 21. A torsion spring 29 encircles the shaft 26 and is attached at its opposite ends to the shaft 26 and to the top of the lay 6. The spring 29 acts to move the ends 27 of the pins 23 into close proximity to the reed 19. The brackets 25 are provided with anti-friction rollers 30 which are adapted to engage cam arms 31 which are in the present instance secured tends between the pins 23.

As the lay moves forwardly, for example into the position shown in Fig. 3, the anti-friction rollerswill be moved downwardly by the cam arms 31 and thereby cause the pins 23 to be swung upwardly to clear the upper weftso as to permit the reed to beat them up in the reeds of the warp. Upon the rearward movement of the lay, after the beat up, the ends 27 of the pins 23 will enter the spaces between the uppermost binder warp threads and when the lay reaches its extreme rear position the pins 23 will be in the position to again provide an stood that the pins 23 preferably have registrationwith the reed bars. However, it is not necessary to have as many of the pins 23 as there are splits in the reed, for the reason that the reed 29 forms the separating means for the warp and also the means for beating up the weft in the usual manner.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seenthat my invention can be readily applied to looms with very little change to the loom, since the structure of the loom in its entirety will require little change in order to attach the pins 23 and associated parts.
As shown in Fig. 4 a double face fabric is produced which includes but one set of binder warps with a separating lease of stufier warp. While I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts 01 my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth but consider that I am at liberty to movement of said lay whereby the second race is freed of the warp during the beat up; substantially as described.
