To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. HnBEn'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nashua, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Looms, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention pertains to looms,
from the following claims and description when the same are read in connection with the drawing accompanying and forming part of this specification in wh1chz- Figure 1, illustrates my novel means for stopping a loom when occasion demands and further'shows the shuttle at one extreme of its movement in the loom and its relation to the boxer wheel of the loom stopping mechanism.
Fig. 2, illustrates in detail the position the shuttle assumes when an accident to the picker stick orlug strap takes place, and exactly how said shuttle operates on the boxer wheel to cause stopping of the loom.
Fig. 3, illustrates in detail the loom'stopping mechanism.

The shuttle 6, is of the ordinary well known construction and operates in the conventional manner in the loom.
Experience has demonstrated that because of the constant striking of the shuttle against the picker stick, the picker stick or reference designate ,parts in all of the views of lug strap, after a short period of use be-' come broken or otherwise inoperative and when this breaking takes place, a large amount of damage is caused to the loom and its appurtenances. In order to immediately sto operation of the loom, I provide the novel means illustrated and comprising a boxer wheel 1, of concave form and constructed of metal, wood, fiber, leather or the like, and said wheel is s'ecured by an axle in the arms 20, that extends downwardly on either side wheel. The said arms merge into a single solid piece 23 and Specification of Letters Patent.

As clearly shown by the drawings, the" spring 4 1s 1nterposed between and abuts at one end against a collar 16 of the-arm 2 AIM at the opposite end against one, of the straps 10 of the base 5; said spring encircling the arm 2 at all times, and being. provided for the purpose of always forcing, the boxer wheel rearwardly against the shuttle, when said shuttle through breaking ofthe lug. strap or picker stick is caused to ride over and rest upon the boxer wheel.

In the'practical operation of my invention, when the picker stick or, lug strap breaks, the shuttle 6 will becaused to ride over and rest upon the boxer wheel land when this takes place, the arm 2 will be forced forwardly by the weight of' the shuttle and the spring 4' will :be r placed under tension. Because of its connection-to the arm 2, the rod 3 will likewise be forced forwardly and this will force the portion 13 of said arm against the shipper arm 7 forcing the same forwardly. In view of its con-' about by breaking of the picker stick and lug strap and the jumping of the bobbin occasioned thereby, is inoperative except in case of mishap, may be operated by anysize shuttle because of the coiled spring 4, which tends to always force the boxer wheel against the shuttle, and will manifestly save yarn and bobbins because of the device precluding the breaking of the bobbin and its appurtenances.
Having described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- 1. In a device for the purpose set forth, the combination of a base, an arm slidable in said base, a boxer wheel mounted at one end of the arm, a movable rod secured at one end to the arm and slidable therewith, a clip mounted on the base and capable of holding the rod in slidable manner to said base, and means for forcing the boxer wheel rearwardly and comprising a coiled spring that encircles the arm and abutting at one 'end against said arm and at its opposite end against a portion of the base; the rod being bent outwardly at its foremost end and ca pable of bearing against a shipper arm when said rod is forced forwardly.
2. In a loo-m, the combination of a shuttle, smash preventing means arranged adjacent the shuttle; said means comprising a boxer wheel of concave form, an axle on which the wheel rotates, forwardly extending portions in which the axle is mounted, and an arm formed integral with said portions and extending forwardly therefrom and being slightly reduced in diameter to produce a collar at a point in the length of said arm, an aperture provided near the rear end of the arm, a rod secured at its rear end in said aperture and being provided at its forward end with a bent portion, a base having straps at each end thereof that form retain ing means for the first-named arm, a clip secured to the base and constructed in substantial L-shape form and having an aperture through which one end of the rod passes, and a coiled spring encircling the arm and abutting at its rear end againstthe collar of the arm and abutting at its forward end against the foremost strap of the base portion to force the boxer wheel rearwardly.
3. In an attachment for looms, the combination of a shuttle, a concave boxer wheel arranged adjacent to the shuttle, a slidable arm having a bearing in its rear end in which the wheel rotates, a collar former intermediate said arm by diminishing the diameter thereof at a point midway the length thereof, a base having means at its rear and forward ends in which the arm slides, a rod secured at its rear end to the arm and slidable therewith; a bent end portion formed at the forward end of the rod, a clip secured to the base and engaging the rod to prevent casual displacement thereof, and a spring encircling the arm and abutting at one end against the collar of said arm and at its opposite end against the forward part of the means of the base in which.

the combination of a wheel, a shuttle capable of bearing 011 said wheel, an arm secured to the wheel and capable of horizontal movement therewith, a base having rear and forward guideways in which the arm moves, a clip secured to the base, a rod ongaged at its rear end by the arm and at its forward end by the clip said rod having a forwardly bent end portion, a coiled spring encircling the arm whereby when the wheel is forced forwardly the rod will bear against shifting means of a loom to prevent further operation of theloom.
