To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FREDERICK H. BUTTS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therem to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to a garment fastener, and the primary object of my 1nvention is to provide a novel and inexpensive device by which a nether garment may be supported relative to the suspender buttons of a pair of trousers, and this ob ect 1s accomplished by a device that is detachable relative to the nether garment and also a pair of trousers, so that the nether garment can be easily washed and a pair of trousers cleaned from time to time.

A further object of my invention is to provide a garment fastener that may be advantageously used for attaching the wa st band of a pair of underdrawers to the waist band of a pair of trousers, the garment fastener being independent of a pair of suspenders, so that a belt may be worn to support the trousers. It is in this connectlon that the garment fastener is invisible when in use, and is disposed so as not to interfere with the comfort of the wearer.

My invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is an enlarged horizontal sectional view of the waist bands of two garments connected by a fastener in accordance with my invention;

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion of a pair of trousers showing a nether garment provided with a fastener and adapted for attachment to the trousers;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged side elevation of the garment fastener;

Fig. 4 is a detail view of a staple that may form part of the fastener;

Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a simplified form of fastener, and

Fig. 6 is a cross sectional view of the same.

In the drawing the reference numeral 1 denotes the waist band of a pair of underdrawers or similar garment, and the reference numeral 2 denotes the waistband of a pair of trousers, the latter having the usual suspender buttons 3 on the inner side thereof.

As shown in Fig. l, the waist band 1 may be provided with reinforcing portions or str ps 4 and attached to these reinforcing strips are socket members 5 adapted to receive button members 6, said socket and but ton members being somewhat similar to an ordinary glove clasp or fastener. In some instances, the socket member 5 may be attached direct to the waist band 1.

The button members 6 are carried by end pieces 7 detachably connected by staples 8 or other fastening means to the ends of a plate 9, and said plate has a longitudinal slot 10 with an enlarged portion 11. The enlarged portion 11 permits of the plate 9 being placed in engagement with the suspender buttons 3. This is accomplished by first placing the plate 9 in engagement with one of the buttons and shifting the plate until the button engages an end wall of the slot 10. The waist band 2 of a pair of trousers is then gathered to bring the buttons 3 into proximity to each other, so that the remaining button 3 may be placed in the enlarged portion 11 and shifted to the other end of the slot 10. In this manner, the plate 9 will be supported by the suspender buttons 3 in the ends of the slot 10, and the waist band 1 of the nether garment will be firmly held relative to the waist band 2 of a pair of trousers. When it is desired to separate the two waist bands, the button members 5 are snapped out of engagement with the socket member 6.

In some instances, the end pieces 7 and the staples or fastening means 8 may be dispensed with and the button members 5 attached directly to the ends of the plate 9. The plate 9 may be made of light and durable flexible material, as sheet metal, so as to conform to the contour of the waist of the wearer, and one of the fasteners may be used at each set of suspender buttons.

It is thought the utility of the device will be apparent without further description, and while in the drawing there is illustrated the preferred embodiments of my invention, it will be understood that the struc- 10 Waist band, socket members carried by each strip, and sets of buttons at each end of said plate adapted for connection with said socket members.
