To all whom t 'may concern.' t Be it known that, I, FREDRICK C. Genoa of Illinois, have invented certain new and luseful Improvements in Cushions or Mattresses; and I do hereby declarathat the following is a full, clear, and exact descrlp- 4tion thereof, reference being had to the a'ccompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification. v

This invention relates to yimprovements .1n spring cushions or mattresses and consists of the matters hereinafter Adescribed and more particularlyv pointed out in theappended claims.

The object of the invention -is to produce a cushion or mattress which is cheap to manufacture, easy to assembleand which -is efficient in operationfor-its intended pur poses. These objects aswell as the many advantages of my invention will be made more apparent as I proceed with my speciicatio y i In illustrating my inventlon, I have shown it as applied to a cushionand more partie` ularly to a cushion of the .kind adapted and intended for use as a seat cushion for automobiles-or other vehicles, but it will bemanifest that the features lof the invention will also be of advantage in connection with cushions or mattresses for other uses.

Referring now in detail tothat embodiment of my invention illustrated 'iin the accompanying drawings 15 indicates the cushion or mattress` as [a whole. It comprises a base 16, a body x17, supported on said base and an outer covering 18 which incloses the body and holds it in position upon a citizen ofthe United States,- and a resident of Chicago, in the county lof Cook and State pocket 23, the pockets of the several springs in each row being connected together in the ,manner described in Letters =Patent No.

Thus the body 17 is a unitary structure in itself, capable-of being made in lots, each convenient for handling and ready for easy assembly upon the base 16'during the building` up of each particular cushion or mattress .15.

The covering 18 which may be of any suitl able material such-as canvas, .leather or Vthe like, not only gives the' proper finished appearance to "they cushion or mattress as a whole, but acts to secure the body17 against displacement in any direction upon the base 16. My improved cushion is easily assembled. A body 17 is placed upon a base 16, a covering 18 is then draped or placed upon the body in the usual manner, and the clipsv 31 are then applied to attach the bottom edges of the upright walls of the covering 18 tothe border frame 19 of the base.

The advantages of my improved cushion p will be apparent to those familiar with the 15 art.

3. A cushion or mattress comprising a plurality of springs arranged in parallel clips attaching said vbottom edge to the border frame of said base.

4. A cushion or mattress comprising a plurality of springs arranged in parallel rows, each spring being inclosed in one of a. series'of independent pockets, each connected in a row, a casing inclosing said parallel rows of pockets, a base for said pocket-in-- closing casing, said base including a wire border frame and cross wires connecting the sides and ends of said 'border frame, a layer of wadding on the top .of saidcasing, an outer covering forsaid wadding and casing, said covering including an upright wall having a welted bottom edge, and clips for attaching said welted edge to said border frame.
