To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT O. ToMLIN- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Wheaton, in the county of Dupage and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Electric- Light Fixtures, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates generally to electric-light fixtures and has for its object the provision of a fixture including a support or holder for an electric-light diffusing bowl or globe, which is simple in construction and ornamental in use.
Another object is to provide a fixture of this character with a holder which shall be responsive and accommodating to the expansion of the globe due to the heat of the electric lamp. This expansion is afforded in the peculiar construction which employs the use of three independent sections toform the single holder which has arms spirally twisted together but with an untwisted portion of substantial length between the inner end of each spiral twist and the annulus.
WVith these and other objects in view, my invention consists in the novel construction, combination, and relative position of the parts and members hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
A structure embodying my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is an elevation of same, and Fig. 2, a plan view of the holder.
Referring to the illustrations, 10 indicates an electric lamp carried in the socket which carries a suitable reflector-support 12. The glass reflector 13 is held in the support 12 byscrews 14.
The translucent glass diffusing bowl or globe 15 is preferably formed with the extending flange 15 for support in myimproved holder generally designated by numeral 16.
The holder 16 is preferably made of three independent pieces of round wire 16 formed into a ring 16 The ends of each' wire 16 extend upwardly or perpendicularly to the plane of the ring 16 and are locked or secured together with the adjacent ones by spiral twists 16 which not only tie the three sections together but also form stiffened upwardly extending arms 16 The extreme ends 16 of the two wires are bent toform inwardly disposed hooks 16 which engage the edge of the reflector l3 and thereby suspend the bowl 15 from said edge.
The bowl 15 can readily be removed by first springing the arms 16 outwardly to disengage the hooks 16 from the edge of the reflector 13. The bowl 15 can then be lifted out of the annulus 16 Attention is directed to the resiliency of the structure disclosed which is attained by beginning the twisted section at a point G a distance substantially about the plane of the annulus s0 that three sections are free to spread apart in response to any possible expansion of the bowl rim or flange 15 due to the heat generated by the electric lamp 10.
With the construction shown and described, the sectional or non-continuous ring 16 composed of sections 16 does not need to be flanged to underlie or support the flange 15 and the arms 16 do not need to be attached in any way to the ring-like bowl holder, as these arms are integral with said sections.
It is thought that the foregoing description and illustrations clearly disclose the construction and operation of the invention, hence a more extended explanation is omitted.
I claim:
1. The combination of reflector, reflector, the top portion of said bowl, formed of separate wires having their end portions twisted together to form hooks to engage the edge of the reflector, all of said hooks being untwisted a substantial distance from the annulus to permit expansion of the annulus, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a lighting fixture, the combination of a lamp socket, a holder with a substantially fiat downwardly flaring reflector sup ported on said socket, a bowl supported below said reflector, and means for supporting said bowl comprising a plurality of wire members forming a substantially fixed but elastically expandible annulus, the adjacent ends of said members forming arms extendan electric lamp, a light diffusing bowl below said an expansible annulus encircling,
