EGBERT H. DAVIS, 0F W YANDOTTE. MICHIGAN, ASSIG-NOR TO BEAIIS & SELKIRK TRUNK COMPANY, OF WYANDOTTE, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF NEW YORK.
WARDROBE-TRUNK.
Application filed July 12, 1918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EGBERT I-I. DAVIS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Vyandotte, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have 1nvented certain new and useful Improvements in Wardrobe-Trunks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to wardrobe trunks and has for one of its objects the provision of a closure for one of the trunk compartments, which is readily removable from the trunk and forms an ironing board. Other objects of the invention reside in the novel arrangements and combinations of parts as more fully hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings:
Figure l is a perspective view of the wardrobe trunk embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view with the parts separated.`
The wardrobe trunk comprises the garment compartment A having the upper end B suitably secured thereto and the drawer compartment C, which are of usual construction. As shown, the end B is hinged to the garment compartment.
For the purpose of keeping the dust out of the garment compartment 'when the trunk is open, the closure D is provided fitting in the outer edge of the compartment, the arrangement being such that the trunk can be closed with the closure in place. This closure may be in one piece, but in the present instance comprises the sections E and F/ hinged to each other at F and padded on the same sides as at Gr to form an ironing board, which can be used either in folded or extended positions.
The garment compartment B has the backing strips I-I at its sides and lower end, which strips are spaced from the edges of the compartment a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the closure D. The closure D when in place in the trunk, rests against these backing strips and is detachably held thereagainst by suitable Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 28, 1919.

means such as the clamps I at the lower end of the trunk and having the flanges I spaced from the adjacent backing strip H sufiiciently for the insertion of the closure D and the fasteners .I at the upper end of the trunk. These fasteners J may be of various types, such as the common glove button type.
If desired, there may be provided the holder K at the lower end of the trunk for securing in place a sad-iron L of any usual construction, this holder comprising the base M and the straps yl for adjustably tting over the sad-iron and holding the same to the base. l
From the above description it is readily seen that a removable closure for the garment compartment of a wardrobe trunk is provided, which closure may be used as an ironing board when removed from the trunk.
What I claim as my invention, is:
l. In a wardrobe trunk, the combination with a compartment of the trunk, of a removable closure for said compartment, and padding upon said closure for forming an ironing-board of said closure when removed.
2. In a wardrobe trunk, the combination with the garment compartment of the trunk, of a closure therefor comprising foldable sections padded to form an ironing board, and means for detachably kretaining said closure in place.
3. In a wardrobe trunk, the combination with the garment compartment of the trunk, of a closure therefor forming an ironing board and comprising a plurality of sections hinged to each other and padding upon the same sides of said sections, and means upon said trunk for detachably holding said sections in place.
4. In a wardrobe trunk, the combination with the garment compartment of the trunk, of a closure therefor comprising sections hinged to each other and padded upon corresponding sides to form an ironing board.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
EGBERT II. DAVIS.
