To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, (PAUL M. HoroHKiN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in. Leg Attachments for Forms, of. which the following is a speci My invention relates to that class of de vices which are designed to be used in show windows and similar locations fordisplaying articles of wearing apparel.

Up to the present time, devices of this I class, with which I am familiar, arev formed of papier mach, or wood, the use of which gives rise to a number of objections, among which might be named sensitiveness to atmospheric changes, and after being in use a short time, they crack or peel. These materials cannot be modeled from the human form' and consequentlydo not display garments, hosiery and similar articles as satisfactorily as if true to nature.

Continued use of the figure frequently results in the breaking of the toesor heels and most of the devices require a brace to sup port them when in use. e

My invention has for its object to provide a form of construction which will avoid all of the objectionable features possessed by the papiermach and wood forms, and which will stand erect without the interposition of a brace or other supporting device, and to have allthe grace of outline of the human form hitherto unattainable.

My means for accomplishing the foregoing objects may be more readily understood by having reference to the accompanying drawings, which are hereunto annexed and are a part of this specification, in which:

Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the entire description. As shown in the drawings, the attachment comprises a metal last which forms the heel, sole and toes of the foot of the figure, ,co1n bined with a reinforced composition molded in a cast copied from a natural form.

The metal last is formed with afsole 4, and hollow toes 5. A rib 2 runs along the center of the sole a and terminates in a boss 7 whichis, provided with a central opening in which is mounted a tube or pipe 8 which extends upwardly to a metal yoke 9. The

A set screw 16, is provided to regulate the length of the pipe intermediate the yoke 9, and the the leg, which is to be constructed.

In the central portion of the yoke 9, is mounted a rod or pipe 17, which is secured to a brace18, generally formed of wood and mounted inside of the'papier mach body. A collar 20 is provided in order to adjustthe length of the rod17. When the mold has been formed the last, rods and yoke, are placed therein and the compositionjfZl,

last 2, by which is determinedthelength of is cast around it, filling up the spaces in the last and entirely surrounding the pipes or tubes 8. This composition is preferably formed of plaster of .Paris which has mixed with 1t, a 'fiber stiifening made from fragmentsof either hemp, rope, hair, burlap, str1ng,;etc., 1n sufiicient quantities to give it strength. The composition is then mixed with water until sufliciently plastic to be poured into the mold.

The result of this construction is obvious. It is impossible to break the toes or heels of the figure owingto the presence of the metal last while its weight is sufficient to support the figure in an upright position without the assistance of a standard or other supporting means.

The tubes or rods 8, impart suflicient rigidity to the composition to make it very durable while the composition assumes the form of the cast made from nature since the last is sufficientl small to be placed inside of the mold of the foot in the same manner as a core is placed in a mold, it is obvious it will, not vary the shape of the exterior of the composition, and inasmuch as the composition is not materially affected by changes of temperature, it can be used for an indefinite period without deteriorating.

Having described my invention what I rerounds said tubes and fills in the spaces in the last and forms the legs.

2. A pair of legs for a form comprising the combination of composition adapted to reproduce the natural form, an upwardly extending tube for each leg, a yoke mounted on the upper end of each tube, a metal last, forming a wall for the heel, sole and toes of each foot, one of said lasts being secured to the lower end of each tube, said "composition being cast around said tubes and filling the spaces in said lasts and forming the legs.

3. A pair of legs for a form comprising the combination of composition adapted to reproduce the natural form, an upwardly extending tube for each leg, a yoke mounted on the upper end of each tube, a metal last formed with a sole, a wall at one end of said sole which forms the heel and at the other end which forms the toes, a rib which connects the two, one of said lasts being secured to the lower end of each tube, said composition being cast around said tubes and filling the spaces in said lasts, and forming the legs, and means to adjust the position of said yoke.

4. A leg attachment for forms each leg of which is provided with a metal last forming the heel, sole and toes of the foot, a boss cast or formed in the heel, a tube mounted therein, a yoke having a pair of arms which terminate in bosses, having openings therein, the upper end of said tubes being mounted in said openings set screws in said bosses which engage said tubes, an upwardly eX- tending rod mounted in the central portion of said yoke adapted to engage the top portion of a form, and means to adjust the length of said rod.

5. A leg attachment for forms, comprising a foot means contained in foot to hold said form upright without an exterior support, a boss cast or formed in therheel, a tube mounted therein, a yoke having a pair of arms which terminate in bosses, having openings therein, the upper end of said tubes being mounted in said openings, set screws in said bosses which engage said tubes, an upwardly extending rod mounted in the central portion of said yoke adapted to engage the top portion of a form, and means to adjust the length of said rod.

A. pair of legs "for a form comprising the combination of composition adapted to reproduce the natural form, 'an upwardly extending tube for each leg, a yoke mounted on the upper end of each tube, a last secured to the lower end of each tube, said last being smaller than the size of the foot to be molded and having hollow toes and heel, said com position being cast around said tubes and filling the spaces in said lasts and forming the legs, and means to adjust the position of said yoke.
